How to kill your pool room's business.

Business There's no excuse for most of that, especially the stuff that doesn't cost much or anything. I'm constantly reminded that I need to do a better job, and it sounds like I'm not alone. My dad used to say "in business, there's always room right above whoever is doing the best job now"...

    Snooker table

Gold Crown snooker It appears to be a Gold Crown, probably 1 or 2 vintage, which means probably 60s or 70s as to the year. It also appears from the picture to be VERY nice. You can't tell everything from one picture, of course, but from what I can see it appears to be in showroom condition.

The Best Ever List of Pool Nicknames

Nicknames I had a guy in the pool room years ago named 'Royce Myers III', and I called him 'Rolls'. 'Rolls Royce' could barely make a ball, and was kind of goofy, but I always thought it was a cool nickname.

    Replacing rails on a Valley

Rails I have no experience with Penguin rails, but I own 4 tables with Ridgeback rails and they would be excellent replacement rails for your Valley.

    Installing Worsted Wool Cloth

Simonis dvds Not sure if you convinced him, but you convinced me. I've worked on tables for 20 years-lots of Simonis, Granito, Tour Edition, crappy Imperial cloth, and everything in between-but if Simonis has a recomended way to install their cloth it's worth $30 bucks ($15 for bed, $15 for...

    monthly fees

Monthly Yeah, I agree, that IS a deal if you like playing during the day. Some do, and others only play at night. I've always thought a big key to success in this business is to get some money in the till before 6:00 pm, and many places offer this 'daytime only' monthly deal.

    monthly fees

Monthly fee Here in Medford, OR we charge $75.00 for a 30 consecutive day card which entitles the player to play as much as they want anytime we are open. The player can start or stop anytime they want, but you can't 'pause' it- it is good for 30 consecutive days from whatever day you purchase...

Dollar water pays off big at "Hanks" billiards

Hanks I think most of us get the joke. Hank should be happy as his is the only room in CO I could name. BTW, my air freshener often does no good either. Maybe we should be discussing what these guys EAT instead.

    Straight Edge Or Machinist Level?

9' straight edge www.the-flooring-connection.com has them, as well as other flooring and carpet places. The carpet guys use 9' and longer straight edges. Straight edges are great for checking the whole slate at once to see how low the middle slate is, which is common even in new tables. Long...

    Installing Worsted Wool Cloth

Cloth With all you've spent so far, it would make sense to consider spending what's left to have it installed correctly. It's not as easy as it looks in the Youtube videos.

What kind of table is this? How do I care for it?

Classic I can't speak about the crowd as I live in Southern Oregon, but I always make it a point to stop by when I'm up there, which I'm not very often. Paul is a friend, and I know he has always worked hard on the pool room. I was congratulating him on his 25th anniversary a while back and he...

Mounting diamond lights issue, plz help.

Diamond lights I agree with Tony in that it's unwise to hang them from the grid if you can find another way. When we bought ours (10 years ago) the shipping weight was 110lbs each, but ours are the 4x8 ones. We no longer have a drop ceiling, but when we did I wouldn't have felt comfortable...

    Rail Cloth Tension?

Rails without cloth I set up a table one time with no cloth on the rails just for fun, and it was wild. Definately not 'normal' mainly because of the extreme friction between the ball and the plain rubber. It's similar to the way a racquetball reacts, if you're familiar with that, in that...

    Ping pong table top

Ping Pong Kettler makes a nice one. It's 2 pieces, is very solid and made just like a high quality table top. It has a net system designed for it that is easy and helps hold the pieces together. It's distributed by Imperial, and you can find a dealer near you at imperialusa.com.
