Players announced for the Pan-Americans in Cali

Watched it on Kozoom. Hugo played so-so until he had 22 in 21, then ran an immaculate 8 to win it. Unfortunately, I had no video of the Mazin match. Well done gentlemen!

*** Guess the Correct Shot and Win... ***

OK, I've spotted it now. Will play by the rules, I've had my one chance. But I am positive I know the shot BS played. Will send him a PM to prove it.

*** Guess the Correct Shot and Win... ***

No time to check all earlier posts; did anybody guess this one: two cushions first, yellow into the short rail it is close to, then long rail, halfball into the red, develop lots of english and come off the left long rail close to the white.

Older cases - maybe French made?

Had one of those for a decade. Black leather, cylinder shape, little compartment on top, maybe a 3 inch diameter, at most. Keep that size in mind. I bought the case at Wilhelmina billiards in Amsterdam in the days when all I practiced was 47/2. I decide to also buy my own white pencil, to draw...

    Amazing Shot!! Explain this!!!

Let me give you directions to Starbucks. Let me buy you a Heineken. Let me knock you unconscious. But for the love of god, whatever you do, don't drink coffee at Carom Cafe. I love the place to bits, but the coffee is 20 % Juan Valdez, 80 % dishwasher waste.

*** Who of the TOP 6 Players in USA are the Most Defensive ***

Ira: We're on the same page, obviously. And, you are without a shadow of a doubt, the first human being ever to write down this sentence: "... when I scored points using a 'small-ball' approach, that I would rationalize the suboptimal scoring tactic with the 'defensive hedge' justification."...

*** Who of the TOP 6 Players in USA are the Most Defensive ***

Of course. True. There is a correct time for attack and defense in every match, depending on position, scoreline and momentum. Sometimes playing a defensive shot is the only sane thing to do. But point me towards 2 players who have never reached their full potential because they were "too...

*** Who of the TOP 6 Players in USA are the Most Defensive ***

Amusing as the poll subject is, it will have to do without my vote, because: a) I like these excellent players and have played against all of them in a fine atmosphere, and b) calling someone "the most defensive" can hardly be considered a compliment. It just means: he does not have his game...

No Juanjo Trilles Challenge this summer

The Juanjo Trilles Challenge 2012 was a four-day 3-cushion match in Valencia, Spain, between Frederic Caudron and Dick Jaspers, won by the first by a margin. We were all hoping this would become an annual event, but alas. Not in 2013, maybe in 2014. Sorry for the "non-news".

    Amazing Shot!! Explain this!!!

If I strip this debate of all sorts of stuff that does not belong in it, arguments ad hominem and ad auctoritatem mainly, this is what is left: Can this shot be made with balls, equal in size and weight? The video does not provide evidence about the weight, and neither do opinions.

    Amazing Shot!! Explain this!!!

This thread gets more interesting every day. From my point of view, for two reasons: 1) Bob Jewett being no fool and THIS certain, and 2) A comment from a friend of mine who watched the video several times, and said: yes, can be done on very new cloth with new balls. That friend, being no fool...

Paul Frankel, America's Provocateur of 3-Cushion Billiards

As long as we are on the subject, I'd like to tip my hat to Paul, and object to "sole".

    BWA player pictures

Sets of 28, A4 size, all the greats: Ceulemans, Blomdahl, Sang Lee, Komori, Zanetti, etc. Some BWA pins and stickers included. I have just a few dozen of those. Also: BWA medals. Send me a PM if you are interested. Mind you, pictures are +/- 15 yrs old.

Facebook: the group is called "3-cushion billiard players".

A Merrill Hughes initiative, moderated by Merrill and myself, this Facebook group has just made it to 750 subscribers. All contributions are in English, even if members are from 20+ countries. There is room for news, pictures, results, video's of great shots or links to complete matches. My...

    Balkline

In addition to Bob J's accurate comment: the balkline game you should start with (once you have some proficiency in the free game) is 47/2, not 71/2.

    Dutch league Play-offs

Regular 22 rounds of play finished (12 teams, home and away). These four teams have made the play-off: 1) Frans Bevers Catering (Caudron, Leppens, de Bruijn, Hofman) 2) TOVV (Merckx, van Kuijk, Christiani, Bitalis) 3) Snellen Recycling (Forthomme, P. Ceulemans, van Beers, vd Ven) 4) Martens...

A single inning set is always special

Dutch Cup: I watched a beautiful match between the teams of Snellen (Forthomme, P. Ceulemans, van Beers, vd Ven) and Dallinga (Caudron, Leppens, de Bruijn, Hofman) this evening. Forthomme got beaten 1 -2 in sets by Caudron: 7 - 15 in 6, 15 - 6 in 4, 0 - 15 in 1. That's 22 - 36 in 9/10 innings...

    results from World Cup

Bob, if you forgive us (Europeans) for the incorrect use of the term "penalty points", we won't give you (Americans) a hard time for using the term "football".

    Agipi qualification weekend

Steve, with you on the streaming. As for the run of 35: if Hugo or Pedro did it, I'd be the first to say: it could not have happened to a nicer guy. But given the development of the world record high run in the past two decades, there's serious odds against a 30 run. A 32 run: 5 times more...

    Agipi qualification weekend

Final qualification weekend for the Agipi Masters today: Jaspers and Caudron both made it, Caudron 4 and 0, Jaspers 2, 1 draw, 1 loss. Here is the Jaspers - Caudron match in 1 sentence: 26 -2 in 7, 44 - 7 in 15 (14), 47 - 50 in 24. Yep, running a couple of 5's and a 20 can turn a match around.
