John Barton Playing ATM Right Now

He's mostly an action player so I'm sure his rating might be a bit off. He's got a very high gear but I'd guess he's a low 700 player most of the time. I like Andy too, he is a good guy. Yes, he's got a reputation and all that but everyone knows that going in, at least around here. Funny story...

I am curious to see how people respond to this.

Fair enough. So, knowing how you feel about this and also knowing how the game is played in every single competitive league/tournament that I know of, how do you react when someone takes an intentional foul against you in a tournament? Do you just unscrew and quit? I genuinely would like to...

I am curious to see how people respond to this.

Well, now that I've read the thread :)... specifically speaking, in the various games of pool, intentionally fouling and thus "breaking a rule" is accepted as strategy because it takes skill and experience to first know when to do it (IOW, knowing when the resultant penalty is worth it in order...

    Yes, of course.

World FargoRate ranking: changes in past year

This is the same issue we have in Politics. People don't believe the data What I had to say was in the title.

    Funny pic/gif thread...

This is the problem. Soon, when cars drive themselves, you will see that they use the whole lane and merge at the end because it's the most logical and efficient way to do it. At that point will you yell at your car for letting the other guy in? lol.

What's Good About A "Good Hit"?

I agree with this. The sound is a big part of it. I play with eabuds now but at first it was weird to not hear the shot.

What's Good About A "Good Hit"?

I'm just replying to your op and I haven't read the four pages of responses yet, but for me, it all comes down to how the feedback in your grip hand feels. There is a very satisfying feel (two very admittedly subjective words) that I had become accustomed to when playing with my southwests over...

    Opponents with headphones

I wear them occasionally and usually think to ask the opponent before hand if they mind. So far, no one has said they do. It did come back to bite me once in the local Friday tournament. I put them on because the jukebox was super loud and they were playing music that wasn't my cup of tea so I...

    Calling all pro speed players

Wait, you have robustness of 5(!) and you think you know what your fargorate is? That's not how it works. Shouldn't matter too much though. Even if you're one of those undercover road players that are rumored to still exist, you're still not going to play as well as she does. You can't just...

Let’s see your Revo shafted cues!

What kind of tip are you using? It looks very bright in the picture. I'm using a Predator victory tip but medium instead of the soft that they come with.

Let’s see your Revo shafted cues!

Finally got my new butt I had Jeff from AE cues make me a new butt for my 12.4 radial revo shaft and I just received it last week. It's a simple cue with California buckeye burl for the forearm and a linen wrap all the way down. I asked for that wood specifically because of it's natural gray...

    Calling all pro speed players

I wrote my first response after reading his first post but now that I've read the thread, I want to say that I'm all for this. I would pay to watch this too. Not bashing the guy for wanting to play, I just think his logic is flawed and most of the arguments he makes for improving his chances...

    Calling all pro speed players

Lol, really? I'm sure you're joking but just in case you're not... You have no shot at beating her in a long race if you're a 650ish player. Obviously you can't play a race to 100 in one day so if that's your gimmick, never mind. I mean, if you got beat 100-0, that would still take almost 11...

    Female with 790 FargoRate

Just saw this Russ, sounds like you're hitting them well. I'm reworking my game from the ground up with this switch to the revo shaft. It's coming along but I'm not quite there yet. I'm cramming this week so I don't embarrass myself at the VNEA next week. When are you coming back stateside...

Seeing FARGORATE stuff makes me wonder

I wonder about this too. I think I remember seeing Mike address this in a thread but I am curious about how much data is required to make sure the data linking male/female performance is enough to get accurate ratings for female players... I just don't know enough about how it's actually done...

Seeing FARGORATE stuff makes me wonder

Ok, I get it but we still have a fundamental disagreement here. You don't believe that Fargorate is a true measure of performance and I do. I think the ratings could be off a bit but not that much and I think that "if" they are off, they will eventually adjust to be correct. So just for grins...

Seeing FARGORATE stuff makes me wonder

I get all that, all I'm saying is that it's not Fargorate's responsibility to eliminate the gender issue in pool. It's the event organizers and the participants responsibility to change the way we organize pool tournaments. You said "if Fargo is so accurate, there should only be one event...
