Does a 1-piece, all-maple butt make any sense?

All my life I have loved the cue in the picture below. It is a Martin that Lassiter had. I did own a Martin once and played with it till it got stolen I only recently made a copy of the Lassiter cue in the picture for myself. The picture is not very good I know...

Thoughts on cuemaker's transition from 57 inch, 58 inch and over 60 inch cue.

Do you remember building a cue for Ronnie Sypher with a long butt and short shaft for playing on bar tables? It was over all I think 57". Regarding your other post, when the change happened it seemed like everyone did it about the same time. Some production cues like Palmer and Viking didn't...

Alcohol vs No Alcohol while shooting....

Not serious players when they are playing. If they feel they have to they have a problem.

Thoughts on cuemaker's transition from 57 inch, 58 inch and over 60 inch cue.

Against the norm, Jimmy Reid played with a 56" and Pat Flemming of Accu-stats played with a 54". Many billiard players play with cues like 52 and 54" cues. Stranglely billiard players also play with very light cue like 13 to 15 ounce. Cue dymamics can be interesting.

Thoughts on cuemaker's transition from 57 inch, 58 inch and over 60 inch cue.

It may have to do with for some reason all house cues were 57" going way back. There are several dynamics that have changed over the years and the length is the least of it. Years ago when many played with a 57" cue they were commonly balanced at 17" from the butt. That is also 40" from the...

The Hustlers Episode 10: Season 1 Finale

I saw Earl being taped for what was to be a Discovery Channel documentary. The guys doing the taping pretty much cut it off and thanked Earl. As they were packing up their stuff one said to the other, "That guy is out of his fu%king mind". I don't think they used anything they had taped with Earl.

May be some truth to this

We have all heard that old one. The difference is very little. Pro's make little or no money so by most anyones measurement pool, all pool, is an amateur sport.

Behavior of Guests in Your Home

Don't even get me started. How about people that think you billiard room is a play room to entertain their kids. When company is over I don't mind them using the table but I have no problem telling them to knock it off when I see them, including adults, misusing my table.

Why don't cuemakers do this? More to the point why don't we let them?

Where would all these extra cues come from? The cue maker still has to build them, be they to fill an order and just offer up for sale. If people know he has ready to sell cues out the door they would be sold. He would still not have any to bring to a show. Its a catch-22.

Why don't cuemakers do this? More to the point why don't we let them?

If you just google suppliers for knife parts you get pages. It is a very popular hobby. If you do the same with pool cues you get like 4. Building cues is also a popular hobby but not near the extent of knife making it would seem. I think for the most part both are hobbies with few making a...

Why don't cuemakers do this? More to the point why don't we let them?

Aren't most all knives from custom knife makers collectables for the most part? They are tools but unlike cues are not really used. A cue has to pass a lot more scrutiny then a knife, it has to meet every expectation.

The Hustlers Episode 10: Season 1 Finale

I would not be disappointed, pool matches take time and you only had 10 hours total to tell the whole story. I think they did a good job with the editing, you got a sense of what took place in the matches they showed. Who owns all the footage. I would love to see it all on line. All the...

Ivory Piano keys for cue makers?

Before the ban they used to be for sale on ebay all the time. They were cheap you got a whole bag of them for a few dollars. I think mostly scrimshaw guys bought them.

Winner Break, Loser Break, Alternating Break...

There is no reason because the game is 9-ball with all the dynamics that go along with it. Players may get behind and make comebacks, you are never out of the game with winner breaks. It is what makes the game what it is. If you want to invent a new game that is fine but when I play 9-ball I...
