What got you interested in pool?

Thanks for the comment hang-the-9. You're right...it was the friendly, helpful advanced players who made me feel welcome as much as the game itself that brought me back, and now I'm hooked.

What got you interested in pool?

I'm 64 and just came to the game about a year ago. The best pool hall in the city of Charleston SC is in the same strip mall as the Gold's Gym where I work out, so one day I walked in to check it out. The bar tender was friendly and a couple of what he described as "the best players in the city"...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

I'mdoing about as well as expected I'm not an advance player like many on this site. I'm 64 and just last year fell in love with the game, so I've been playing about 8-9 months. I wasn't going to join the local APA league but got talked into it. My goal was to win as many as I lose my first...

Pool halls in HIlton Head area?

Greetings all. Anyone have a recommendation for a place to play in the Hilton Head/Bluffton SC area? Thanks.

    Linen, Leather, or no-wrap?

Thanks for all the responses, gents, and some are really interesting. Keep 'em coming. Apparently linen is not a favorite for many, and yet most cue manufacturers seem to offer the majority of their sticks that way. Why?

    Linen, Leather, or no-wrap?

Greetings all. This is clearly not a big deal, but I was wondering how many of you out there prefer leather or no-wrap cues to the standard linen. Most cues of course come with linen, but when I tried leather I much preferred the feel of that, and have now come to realize both leather and plain...

    Schmelke or Meucci?

I just bought a Schmelke Sneaky Pete. It's beautiful, plays extremely well, I got it at a bargain price, and the customer service was excellent. It seems to have a slender butt compared to the McDermott I had and I got it with a 3/8x10 joint and agree with BigBoof's comment on that. I've never...

Another 2 thumbs up for Schmelke

I'd like to add my review to all the other positive things people on this site have said about Schmelke cues. I just received my R065 Cocobola Sneaky Pete customized with a 3/8x10 joint and like others who've received their cues from this company I'm soooooo impressed. The wood grain is...

    Lowballing prices

Too may people get offended for too many reasons and I don't understand it. If you're proud of the cue you built then hold firm on your asking price and that's fine. Reject any offer for less than what you're willing to accept and feel free to laugh at and delete without response offers you...

    Pechauer Pro-H vs OB-122

Pechauer is a great company that makes a very high quality cue. One difference between the 2 you mention is the joint. Pechauer uses a piloted joint into a steel insert in the shaft so it will have a firmer feel to it when you stroke the cue ball. OB uses a 3/8x10 wood to wood joint so it will...

    SS joint vs ?

I'm not an advanced player like many on this site, but the very first time I ever went to a billiards supply store and tried out different cues side by side, even before I understood the differences in construction, I felt a noticeable difference between a Joss or Pechauer (firm hitting...

    Schmelke Cues..... Again

Based on the many positive things I've heard about Schmelke on this website I just ordered a R065 sneaky pete with cocobolo butt and points. Had it customized with a 3/8x10 joint and a black collar and it was still a total of $174.07 including shipping charges. I wouldn't even have known about...

    Schmelke Cues..... Again

I wonder if the owner you talk about was at Joss? Dan Janes is a well respected man with a great history but I've heard very similar stories about terrible customer service from him and I have my own horror story as well.

    Leather Wrap

I agree with a leather wrap. I played with Linen like most folks and then tried a Lucasi with a leather wrap, which also has a slightly slimmer butt, and I was hooked. Everyone's different of course but it feels better in my hand than anything else I've tried.

    Choice between cues

I've had a Players HXT and it was fine, and a Pechauer JP-N that was truly high quality, have tried a Joss and didn't care for it. My favorite of all is now a Lucasi custom LZL-14.but paid an extra $60 and upgraded to a Hybrid shaft, which gives me the best of both worlds. I have a leather wrap...

Feasability of European-style private billiard clubs in the U.S.?

I would join a club like this in a heartbeat. How does it work if, when you go, you can't get an open table? Here in Charleston the pool halls stay pretty busy with a lot of regulars and the leagues are packed. It would be problematic if you pay monthly dues and then can't play when you want.

    Joss warranty?

Sorry Kim Bye but I couldn't disagree more. There are many stories on this site that speak to great customer service by companies like McDermott, Lucasi, OB, etc. with lifetime warranties that replaced warped shafts immediately with no questions asked even after years of use. Sadly, there are...

is really that the cue improves my game?

Good players usually have very good and often expensive cues that they prefer, but yes...they could play very well with just about anything.
