    John Schmidt has beaten Mosconi

I guess technically a rule needs to be set, but in snooker the player carries on, even when the frame has been won (although technically it hasn't been 'won' until either the balls are cleared or the other player concedes, so whilst similar I guess its not exactly the same).

    What if...

I wouldn't worry about the rest so much, I'm a fraction shorter than you and even on a snooker table I don't need it that much!

    John Schmidt has beaten Mosconi

Absolutely, I'm not trying to downplay the achievement, it is clearly a very difficult thing to do, as no-one has done it before! I'm just saying its not really possible to make direct comparisons to other sports (or even pool). For example is a 200 and out in competition more or less impressive...

    John Schmidt has beaten Mosconi

Whilst its tricky to compare I'd say the following: 1) You have opponents in golf majors and bowling (unless its just practice in which case I'd imagine pro's have shot tons of unofficial 900's so I'd agree there). 2) No one will ever win 8 consecutive golf majors (probably), that is levels...

us open format not legit for history

Plus a WCOP of pool I think and a few Mosconi Cups.

    Judd Trump...............

There were 2 deep screw shots he played (one on either side of the table I think), that were incredible. I'm not sure anyone else on the planet (and I include ROS) could replicate either!

Joe Rogan - "Pro pool players look down on bowlers"

I'm not sure why people feel the need to criticise another sport, especially one that's far more organised than pool. Over here in the UK we don't have a pro bowling tour, but your PBA tour seems very professional, with decent prize money and you can even buy pay per view packages on-line. I...

Is Josh Filler the World's Best Pool Player?

I think it’s actually an impossible question to answer, consider snooker: Ronnie O’Sullivan is by far the ‘best player’, but hasn’t been World Champ for a while and has lost in the longer matches for the past few years. However would anyone bet against him in a race to 100? The concept of a...

Thinking of going to the Mosconi Cup? Questions!

Those prices make London seem cheap...I never thought I’d say that!!!

Is Josh Filler the World's Best Pool Player?

Depends what you mean by best athlete...the men's 100m is by far the highest profile event and gets all the press. I don't disagree with your logic, but I'm not sure its accepted that whoever wins the decathlon gold is the 'best athlete'.

How come snooker and not pool?

Snooker did dump Alex Higgins (sort of), he got banned at least a couple of times. Barry Hearn refused to sign him as he was too much of a liability. However remember back that Barry Hearn was Steve Davis' manager (and others), not the same position he currently takes (whatever that is...

    Title Match

When it comes to formats, Matchroom seem to know what they're doing. There is plenty of debate on the same subject with regards to snooker, with most fans wishing the bigger tournaments had longer matches (the World Championships of course consist of long matches, which seems pretty popular, but...

Earl imploding in the World Pool Masrers

He always does that, second place isn't good enough for him. I don't really see whats wrong with it though, it means a young fan has something to treasure and he's generally quite gracious in his post match interview. Now as for some of his off-table interviews, that's another matter ;-)

    US Open payouts............

Not remotely the same thing, both of those events require qualification / invitations to enter, you can't just rock up and pay an entry fee. Given the hard work required to gain entry into either and the already high profile (i.e. televised around the world and already promoted by Matchroom)...

    US Open payouts............

Matchroom is a business, not a bookie...just because an event has the potential to be a success, that doesn't mean it will be. You've presumably seen previous Matchroom events and so know that they don't scrimp when it comes to the production element. This being year 1 of the new Matchroom...

Ronnie OSullivans American Hustle Season 1 Episode 1 on Youtube

I've never seen a snooker table on levellers like that before! I have however tried to play 8-Ball on a snooker table...we gave up pretty quickly...by the end it was a case of just wanting it to be over, rather than care who won :-)

Ronnie OSullivans American Hustle Season 1 Episode 1 on Youtube

All good points and yes, you're correct we are all looking at it from different viewpoints. My stance is effectively to purely look at the fundamental difficulty, hence on ball potted at snooker is harder than on a pool table, therefore I'm comfortable its harder to pot balls on a snooker...

Good point actually, as that particular shot requires what commentators always refer to as 'a Rolls Royce cue action' :-) I could never play that shot in a million years (well not on a club table, it would be nice to see if I could even get close on new cloth)!

Ronnie OSullivans American Hustle Season 1 Episode 1 on Youtube

As far as snooker v pool debates go, this has actually been one of the better ones and you have made some really good points...however the fact is snooker isn't player on a 9-foot table, hence the game is fundamentally harder, as BeiberLvr said, try playing the equivalent of blue's off the spot...

Yeah I'd agree with you there, Straight Pool is an interesting one as the phrase 'simple to play, difficult to master' fits it quite well. On face value anyone can run a rack...but trying to get a run of over 14...then it becomes trickier!
