WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Ok...1/3000 of a sec before contact!

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Actually, I think the question should be - what shots REQUIRE a more powerful stroke. I cannot see using this stroke for anything other than breaking and rare occasions for position play on 9 or 10 foot tables. Just as with Mosconi, his stroke was almost entirely pendulum, but occasionally he...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

For creating power, that makes more sense than anything I've heard yet! It is possible to increase velocity of a pendulum/piston by creating tension before impact and releasing it at impact. However, this is NOT the "double pendulum" stroke of a hammer...wherein lies the confusion with the...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

I think the confusion is in the terminology. Grip vs stroke! It IS possible to use a "hammer" grip on the cue, but it is NOT possible to use a "hammer" stroke such as in hammering a nail! Or at least, this is what I most would think a "hammer stroke" to be. Just as in golf, many teachers would...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Question CJ...In the video posted by OPJ, other than the break, it appears the butt of the cue touches the heel of your palm both in the backstroke and the forward stroke...is this correct? I am anxious to see a new video of this "hammer time" stroke!

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

OPJ I'm not talking about the grip. I'm responding to what CJ said in his own words, "There appear to be three different techniques for the wrist to assist the pocket billiards stroke. The first one is the wrists don't do much at all, the second is they cock up as you hit the cue ball and finish...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

This is NOT a video illustrating the holding of a cue, it is a tennis racket! The Continental Tennis Grip, as it is called, is used to control the face of the tennis racket in relation to the palm of the hand by supinating or pronating the wrist. This has nothing to do with wrist cocking. In...

She's good people too! We played a lot together when we played in the BCA & Valley leagues. Do you know Helene Caulkin, Julio (can't remember his last name but he was on my Valley team and I know he was playing at Cuephoria and Clicks), Paul Colantonio ( 2-time state champ), Bryan Jacobs, or...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Why? The video you just posted is the best example of the hammer grip (wrist cock) I've seen yet! Great post SP99!

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

As you can see in the stills I posted above, his elbow DOES drop. Therefore IMO it is more of a piston stroke instead of pinned elbow. A pinned elbow remains at the same height throughout the stroke.

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Good post! Just as I do (and probably most of us) Jason definitely uses the "hammer" stroke on break. In fact he uses what I call a power stroke - he cocks his wrist AND drives with the larger muscles too (shoulder & legs) which is evidenced by his forward motion. However, as the 2-sec stills...

John Schmidt's and Corey Deuel's comments on aiming systems

Yeah, I know where it's at. I pass it when I go to the Lake Baldwin VA clinic. My problem is, I don't drive after dark....and I like to drink! However, my friend Cris Fields wants me to go with her to play some one pocket. If she will drive, I will go!

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

I am golfing this morning! Ok, since you brought up golf...let's compare the pool stroke to a golf swing. Regardless of what some may think, they are quite similar in that you must complete a series of physical motions and repeat that series of motions to be consistent! The only time I am...

Sounds good to me. We will probably run 46 to 75 then 52 to Hudson. So we will have to pass Strokers, on 19, on our way to Tampa. I'll give you a holler before we go! I've always enjoyed playing pool with good shooter's. When I was on the road, my 3 favorite places to play was Big Dog in Des...

Not that good -- one 7' OS Valley. I go there because my friends go there and the drinks are cheap! Pool is mostly a social thing these days. We used to go to the VFW but, our VFW really pissed me off when I got someone to donate a like-new 9' Brunswick Medalist, and the idiots sold it for $500...

John Schmidt's and Corey Deuel's comments on aiming systems

No, I said people who use CTE or CTC can usually explain how THEY aim. However, it doesn't matter if you thought I said something else because everyone aims differently! And, that's ok...not everyone wears my size shoe but most of us get our shoes on just fine! I play most Sundays at the...
