I am not sure the plastic is supposed to come off either but with it on I felt that the strip was way to stiff. Like I mentioned above, they have held up for over a year and I use them almost daily.

These work very well, I have been using the same strips for over a year now and they still look new. Dave probably gave the correct information. If those belts get a slight twist or anything else wrong with them they do not run correctly. Over the past 20 years I have had more than one bad belt.

Most all of those rubber wraps look like crap after a year or so. Some of them look like they are melting.
