Clearly not the fanciest Scruggs - but it has a simple elegance that speaks volumes and having Southwest finish the cue makes for a great presentation. Nice cue Eric.

NO wrap PFD Q
Just to be clear - the wood is spalted ELM it came from the Shadowmoss forest - he cut the wood and had it "laying around" - when I saw it he gave it to me to make him a cue - and yes the second shaft is ASH, also from the Shadowmoss forest - we cut the Ash logs up together 3...
NOT just another Scruggs
Eric, I must say that you have nearly cornered the market on the very best Scruggs (even if Mike did make it) - you just need to check ALL the closets - ha

Ivory
This is yet another example of . . .
"Don't confuse me with the facts - I know what I believe"
It might interest some to know that the majority of ivory "smuggling" relative the the USA market, is individuals trying to get the ivory OUT of the USA . . . since it is worth 6 times more...
Mandrel size
IF I could make just one suggestion to all cuemakers who are contemplating having carbide mandrels made it would be to go to //.842 // for the finished diameter . . .
There has been and will continue to be a concerted effort to standardize to this dimension . . . and knowing what...
ROYCE - loss of yet another great guy
To say that I was totally shocked and stunned at the news of Royce's death would be an understatement. We have lost yet another super individual and we will all be sadder because of it.
My sincere condolences to his wife, children and friends who knew...
Having helped cut the Ash from logs into planks to be air dried and having turned several dozen squares cut from those boards into actual shafts I can tell you the Ash produces excellent playing results.
If you get a chance you may want to ask Mike Deschain how he likes the Ash shaft that I...
Coring
It is little wonder that a significant number of very accomplished cuemakers choose not to post here given the responses to information that was clearly intended to enlighten readers on what I feel are important topics.
Further discussion here apparently will not change the minds of...
TAPER coring
It might surprise all but a few - but I started tapered coring some 20+ years ago - it is not myth, it works very nicely - the tapered reamers are a bit expensive, however, and were made especially for the application.

Racking
Having the REF rack is not such a good idea . . . I personally watched how the REFs were racking in Taiwan for the All ASIA Tournament, several years ago, and it was clear that "they" were racking in a way that did NOT favor the American Pro players. I would hate to see OUR Refs...
Racking
Given how all the Pros know what it takes to rack "properly" so the wing ball goes directly into the corner pocket - the layout of the balls and the tightness of the rack is VERY significant.
Watch Corel D and go to school on what he does and you will see the significance of how the...
Thomas Wayne Cues
Thomas has been and continues to be a terrific inspiration to all of cuemaking on many different levels - from creation of CNC machinery, to very artistic design work and well ahead of the curve on execution . . . strange that the ACA has not inducted him in the the HOF...
5 POINT pfd Studios Cue
Great price on a great cue - what makes this particular cue special is that it is one of only a handful of "V" SPLICED cues that I made - the Birdseye Maple front is spliced into a continuous piece of Ebony - the technique required real 4th axis machining to make all the...
Master CUEMAKER
What I find most interesting is that not one of the cuemakers that I would consider a "master' at the craft, has ever, to the best of my knowledge, referred to themselves as a "master" - not publicly, not privately and not in print . . . but I have seen several considerably less...
Paul D. Costain - CUEMAKER
YES< Paul D. Costain aka PDC Machine, Rowley, MA - DID make cues - before buying the Predator Cue Company.
Likely the number of total cues he constructed was something less than 100. Most were sold to local players here in New England.

Cortland linen
Cortland is certainly best know for the white and green spec linen - however they did make other color combinations like white with black spec.
Vintage Cortland linen is best identified by examining the number of woven strands that are twisted together.
Incidentally, white...
Vantage shafts - a winner
Since all I purchase is partials I cannot comment on the various claims that the tip/ferrules on some complete shafts are not the exact same size . . . but I can tell you this - the ones I have received are excellent and deliver the hit and performance that customers...
