Should i buy a better cue?

(I posted this same response to your same question in the Ask the Cuemaker section.) I just had this discussion with a friend that's getting back into pool. He asked me if the low deflection shafts, laminated tips, and expensive chalk is anything but a bunch of b.s. marketing. In my opinion...

Should i buy a better cue?

I just had this discussion with a friend that's getting back into pool. He asked me if the low deflection shafts, laminated tips, and expensive chalk is anything but a bunch of b.s. marketing. In my opinion, there is definitely some amount of *significant* difference between a low deflection...

    Funny pic/gif thread...

I was surfing through the t-shirts at Road Kill T-Shirts. At first I didn't understand this one. Then I got it. Pool players see things differently than "normal" people, huh? :)

i'm intrigued by unusual marking on the tips ... opinions welcome !

Yup, that makes sense! Especially if there's a sticker numbered 54 on the bottom of the butt.

    legal pool break

First, as per BCAPL rule 1-35 Position of Ball - The position of a ball is determined by its base (see Diagram 7). Second, as per BCAPL the definition of Head String: a line along the bed of the table, aligned between the second diamonds of the long rails as counted from the head of the table...

i'm intrigued by unusual marking on the tips ... opinions welcome !

There is nothing common about writing numbers on the end of a tip. As a matter of fact, it is extremely uncommon. Therefore, as with countless other uncommon things done by individuals around the world, I have no idea what it means. Perhaps the cuemaker was experimenting with various glues and...

    Why urethane coated Irish linen?

Yup, now when I drool during my naps I don't mess up the couch!

    Why urethane coated Irish linen?

Yup. Same concept as the plastic couch covers at my grandma's house. :)

    Playing pool with snooker cue

Since I've never worked on a snooker cue, perhaps I'm wrong, but can't any tip be installed on a snooker cue?

    Playing pool with snooker cue

Canadian Vince Chambers uses a snooker cue, and he ranks way up there in the best in the Midwest.

    Advise on replacing luxe wrap

The wrap groove is too deep? You can build it up a couple ways. If you have to build it up a lot, you can glue on a layer of veneer wood. First, you may have to "train" the veneer into a tube by soaking it in water, wrapping it around a dowel, securing it in place with rubber bands, and letting...

Suggestion: Don't even get slightly mad at your cheap production cue!

Depends how it's built. If the cue is made from solid wood, like the cue that the OP broke, internal inconsistencies in the wood grain can make for an unknown weak spot just waiting to be broken by a "not very hard" smack. I have seen many broken cues that the owner swore they didn't hit it very...

    Case

Whoa! Easy, JB. Not once did I say or even imply you didn't make good case. My first post was directed primarily to the OP. Perhaps I should have quoted him to make that more apparent. I have owned dozens of different brands of cue cases and they all seem to have worked just fine for me. Yes...

    Case

That reminds me of a story. I decided to play pool, so I grabbed my case, went to the car, put the case on the back seat, and drove to the pool hall. When I got there, I took my case out of the back seat and put the strap over my shoulder, and walked into the pool hall. I talked with some...

    Case

I guess it all depends on how you treat your case. If your case only goes from your house to your car to the pool hall in a gentle manner, anything will work. If you're a little on the clumsy side, something a little sturdier will be required. If you're killing zombies with your case on the way...

    cue tip replacement sugestion

Assuming you've been playing with a Moori medium, considering trying a Moori hard. If you're looking to change brands, here's something I learned along the way. Depending on the leather tanning process, there are brown tips and there are black tips. I'm no expert in tip making, so I have no...

Suggestion: Don't even get slightly mad at your cheap production cue!

It's hard to say exactly what type of wood it is. There are a lot of black and/or dark brown woods. In the second picture, it looks jet black, so I would guess Ebony or African Blackwood. As far as the green stuff, it's epoxy. It looks to be the bottom of the joint screw hole.

    cue tip replacement sugestion

By "grab on the cue ball", do you mean you want to transfer more English to the cue ball, or you want to miscue less? It might seem odd to a lot of people, but you get more English with a harder tip than a softer tip. However, softer tips are more forgiving on miscues than harder tips. That's...
