That's because the sweaters thinks that making the shot is pocketing the ball. But that is the smallest part of making the shot. Making the shot is leaving the cue ball in the right place to make the next 3 balls sequentially. And that the sweaters could never do.

A great safety is an amazing shot. Escaping from a great safety is an amazing shot. Both take great skill. Why would you want to take skill out of the game?

Have you ever played much 3C? Yes, their stroke mechanics are not optimized for potting balls, because that's not the game. Both their stroke mechanics and bridge are, however, optimized for what the game requires, IMO. The margin for error on the hit may be a little bigger than for potting...

Do you think the top 3C players, who use a closed bridge almost exclusively, all have sub-par strokes? Or is there perhaps some factor you are not aware of or not taking into account?
