Squirt. End Mass and Cue Flexibility.

Actually, the sideways deformation would be the only thing that could have an effect since most tips (at least the laminated ones I've measured) have a specific gravity pretty close to 1. The UltraSkins will actually sink slowly in water once you knock the air bubbles off the surface. Since...

Have you looked at this cue testing machine before? http://dbkcues.ru/articles-2/cue-testing-unit/?lang=en

Interesting. I wonder if a very tall and soft tip moves laterally during the hit in a similar fashion.

Going to play in the 9 ball main event at Derby

I proposed to my wife after only going with her for three months. Married her three months later. Been with her for almost 40 years now. When it's true love, you just know it.

I just went down to the table with a bamboo chopstick to see if I could use it to propel a CB. I made sure I only tossed it at the ball to eliminate any effect from the mass of my hand and arm. Best I could get was about 1/4" (after numerous attempts), but the 6 oz. CB did react to the impulse...

'Xactly. My Dad told me that during the war he used to make a proposition bet that he could move his destroyer out from its mooring dock by pushing on it. He said it took about 15 minutes, but he never lost a bet. I'm not sure what his ship weighed, but it must have displaced at least 2500...

I found this when looking for info on the matter. It's not exactly about the phenomenon you are alluding to, but if the threshold of human ability to separate a sound from the visual event that follows is about 65ms, I doubt that the ability to detect the difference in two tactile sensations...

I don't think any of the engineers commenting here think that pool is just "book science", or that playing the game itself is science at all. Alciatore, Page, Jewett, Agnir, et al are all fine "A" players, or even better. As players, they know all about the art and athleticism in the game...

Shocking news: Shane vs Denis match got canceled

Yeah, I'll be looking at my PayPal account for it, but I won't be holding my breath.

    Table Light intensity

I align it with the long dimension because it helps me with long shots. JK. I actually don't have a clue what you are asking, or why you are asking me.

    Table Light intensity

So, my free app suddenly started to crash on me, so I bought a light meter app and took some readings. I also repaired my Gossen light meter. The is a bit of a discrepancy between them. - The Gossen (which I trust completely) gave a reading of 700 lux in the center of the table, and 350 at...

    Table Light intensity

Great photos, and thanks for the info. I used to be assigned the task of photographing my wife's jewelry, and getting glare-free lighting was a big problem.

    Table Light intensity

I have a Gossen Luna-Pro Professional light meter. I have to solder in a new 9V battery connector into it before I can use it. Maybe I'll do that a little later and compare the two readings to see if my app is working OK or not. I know the Gossen meter is accurate to less than 1/3 stop.

    Table Light intensity

You definitely want to measure the light at the table level. I don't know why you would have such a low reading. If I read your post correctly, you have a total of four 4' lamps hanging about 46" above the table surface. They should give you an output of roughly 12,000 lumens compared to my...

    Table Light intensity

That seems about right for those lights. How high are they above the table surface? I have three 100W equivalent CFLs set 36" above the table surface. I get just over 6000 lux in the center, but light falls off to around 300 lux at the corners of my oversize 8 footer. That sounds like an...

    Table Light intensity

Are you measuring the light or the table surface? You should be measuring the light itself, with the phone placed upside-down and as low to the table surface as you can and still be able to read the display. My app has a "hold" button that allows me to poise my finger over the button and press...

    Developing a powerful stroke

I personally don't think that resistance training will add power to your stroke at all. Timing trumps strength in a well executed stroke. Look at Bustamante. Dude probably hasn't lifted anything heavier than 19 ounces since he was 10 years old, but he has one of the most powerful strokes ever...

Well, Pat just put up a replay of the second half of that match, and it's playing on the stream right now. Maybe we should all take a peek. ;)
