WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Sorry, sometimes it's hard to tell with you. I'm having a crummy day for a lot of reasons, shouldn't be taking it out on anybody. Sure, steak dinner is still on... when you come up to Turning Stone in August. ;) Seriously, you should get up to that one. Zuglan puts on a classy and very...

    Marking a shaft

I thought the idea behind squirt reduction is to get the pivot point of the cue directly at the fulcrum of the bridge at the time of CB contact. Am I still misunderstanding how it works after all this time?

    Marking a shaft

I was thinking about the laser method. How shallow can they cut a band of microscopic dots? If there were enough of them that were small and shallow enough, I'll bet a good dye could be used that would penetrate down the holes and into the wood without them being large enough to be felt by the...

    Stroke and fundamentals tweaking...best drill?

The drill is similar to the one Tor Lowry talks about on his free online tutorial video. Tor recommends doing it 2-3000 times over several weeks without playing any pool at all. Seems excessive to me, so I was wondering what Randy thought about it since I know he advocates shorter but intense...

    Marking a shaft

Sounds like a good idea, but how would you do it? I don't wear a glove, so anything that I could feel (like a shallow groove or an inlay) as I stroke would drive me bonkers, and a surface marking would wear off quickly in that location.

And we are all so grateful that you have been able to distill all those thousands of hours into a brief demo at the table. You know how we love our shortcuts. Why not spend less time searching for inappropriate memes, spiritual quotes, and other psychobabble and use that time to...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Oh, please, stop with the Beavis and Butthead schtick. Would you prefer I say, "Of all the silly things I've read you write"? Fine, I'll take that into consideration next time if that will get you to respond to the actual point of the post, K? Sure, there are many voices in my head...

    Stroke and fundamentals tweaking...best drill?

Interesting concept. How many reps do you recommend doing this per practice session?

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

14.1 is all about leaving a makable next shot, and then setting up for a good break ball. The shots themselves are not usually too hard, but it's easy to hook yourself early in the rack, and easier still to leave yourself without a break shot by the end of the rack. If I could master those two...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Now, of all the silly things I've heard you say... this is not one of them. ;) The following missive will surely get scoffed at, but screw it, might as well add more stuff for folks to get outraged over. Lol During those rare moments of pool genius I have, those times when suddenly making...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

So, we mere mortals can't see what you are doing, even with a video camera and detailed analysis after the fact, but you can see that all the top players are accelerating precisely at the moment of contact just by watching with your naked eyes? Are the eyes of a champion really any better than...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

It helps to know what can't be done. Like levering down with your tip to make the CB go faster. Or increasing the contact dwell time by using specific strokes or hand positions. Or hitting the ball off center enough to seriously deflect it without actually spinning it. Or releasing more...

It's possible this may shed some light on the subject: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=W7x1ETPkZsk

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Well, now, you can't accelerate through the actual physical ball, but you certainly accelerate through the space the the ball was occupying. The square in red shows the acceleration of the cue after the contact. The shape of the acceleration curve is similar to the curve before contact but is...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

I'm sure you are right. Everybody's cue accelerates through the ball on the follow through, but first it experiences a violent deceleration to about 60% of its pre-contact speed before once again accelerating through the space the cue ball had been occupying.

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Can you tell me how the leverage allowing you to put downward pressure on your bridge at the last instant moves the cue forward at all? If the cue isn't moving forward from this pressure, you cannot have any acceleration at all. There are many ways that acceleration can be expressed, but all...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Funny, Jack Dempsey fought like that 100 years ago, to great success... until he met his match against a modern "scientific" fighter. That Fedor guy looks like a clown. He misses the target half the time and falls off balance. Only thing he can do then is grab the guy and take him to the...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Yeah, I do that all the time, but only to increase the acceleration on a soft and very relaxed swing. It is the foundation of a good compact straight pool stroke IMO, and is great for stop shot patterns, or for nudging the CB over a few inches with a soft draw. Using it at the last instant to...

WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

Back in the early days of this thread, I mentioned to CJ that his hammer technique reminded me of the Kali stick thrust that I learned over 20 years ago when I was studying Filipino and Indonesian stick fighting. CJ was all over that idea, and claimed that it is very similar (maybe At Large...
