What do you do here ? Need a ruling mr Jewitt please !

"unwire a dead ball" is disturbing, for sure. I hope Bob can give us a ruling on this.

What is my level of play?

    Yup, probably so.

Open Hand Bridge vs Closed Bridge Discussion

Closed bridge most of the time, it's the way I learned to play. I do, however, use whatever feels right/comfortable on whatever shot I'm about to shoot. At 69 I think I'm getting more arthritis in my hands and if I'm only hitting balls for a fairly short time I will use an open bridge just...

    Spotting the opponent a ball

Never even HEARD of it being played that way! Edit: Now, I HAVE heard of having to make the 7 in rotation and not out of turn but the player getting the spot didn't have to make all the balls prior to the 7, which is how I read this. Sorry if I misinterpreted.

    Long time, no see!

WOW!! Welcome back! I just saw a thing on Facebook about diabetes and my wife has had it for about 11 years now. She has it under control at this time but she does still have problems. Funny, I was just thinking about you the other day and wondering why we didn't hear from you anymore...

Just making an observation. It's all happened before and probably will again. Saw the same kind of stuff on rec.sport.billiard before I left years and years ago.

    14.1 Break Ball Help

As I said above, Break Shot Patterns are all about the last 5 balls and seeing some of the top players shooting them is a HUGE help, in my opinion. Dave's stuff is great too!

    Old master found

Nice cue! I've never hit a Schon that DIDN'T have a steel joint. I might like them if I did;)

    14.1 Break Ball Help

Play Your Best Straight Pool by Phil Capelle has a chapter on break shots that covers this pretty well. Also, Break Shot Patterns book/DVD combination is great showing examples in tournament play about how the last five balls were picked. You can use the book, with diagrams, and follow the DVD...

I recently played the best pool ever...

I know that I've had what I consider a "heavy" stroke for years. It's only in the last twenty years or so that I've toned down my speed of stroke on most shots and it's improved my accuracy by quite a bit. I've also used mostly center, low, and high since the '80s, applying English only when...

    Tips on south west cues

I HAVE had Triangles that broke down faster but NOT on my two Southwest cues and not on any cues I've owned since. Both were on an Andy Gilbert and I had to mess with them EVERY time I played with the cue. Eventually sold it before changing the tips. Only time I've ever had that problem.

    How do you improve?

ABSOLUTELY!! I can't imagine why any pool player would neglect this discipline in favor of another but some do, most of whom have no idea of the benefits. And, before anyone says "Straight Pool won't teach you the long shots you need to play 9 ball", I never knew anybody who could play 14.1...

    How do you improve?

OK, but doesn't answer my question. Gambling, now you're talking about experience and mental toughness, not instruction or mentoring.

    How do you improve?

Curious. How many great players had instructors? I know that many had mentors but it's not the same thing, I would think.

How big are the pockets on the table(s) you mainly practice/play on?

Olhausen Remington, 5 inch corner pockets, BUT, a rather deep pocket shelf makes them a bit harder than you might think.
