Why Are They Not Playing True 10-Ball Rules?

This thread is FULL of reasons I no longer play competitive 9 ball!

    Stolen league money

First off, and, I know it's late to say this, but the league needs a BANK ACCOUNT, don't keep the money in someone's home. This is just asking for trouble. Not saying it can't happen that the money disappears but at least one person is less likely to be thought badly of. I feel for you, had...

    Any home only players

4 x 8 Olhausen Remington. I've played at home mostly for the past 16 years or so, I guess. I got sick of bar table 9 ball, rules, tables, players. I mostly practice Straight Pool and if I get real ambitious, One Pocket. I've had a few friends at the house at different times but no one...

    Anyone remember Jimmy Hodges?

According to rumor, he was going to open another business after Gametime/Riptide was sold but to my knowledge nothing has happened yet.

    Passing it down the line

I've shared a lot with a lot of people. I taught our son and some of his friends off and on. I've shared knowledge, I've shared books, articles from Billiards Digest (with permission IN WRITING), tip tips, shaft cleaning tips, etc. I taught the son of a friend because the friend asked me to...

    favorite game

I quit 8 ball when I learned Straight Pool and continue to hate it today. At home I now play Straight Pool by myself, if I had someone to play with on my table it would be One Pocket, which I played almost exclusively when I moved to South Carolina in '97. Never cared for the rule changes in 9...

Current posters who were around for RSB or alt.sport pool please sign in

I seem to remember being on rsb before GUI, when it was text based. I''m not sure now. I was there for quite a while and Google doesn't go back far enough to check. Definitely in the early or mid '90s though.

    Push out 9 ball

We played you could push out as long as no foul had been committed on the previous shot. Any two fouls gave incoming player ball in hand anywhere. We played any two, I know in other parts of the country it had to be two fouls by the same player but never even saw it played that way...

I have some theories I'd like to test on 20-30 ball runners

Similar to Jim Rempe's drill, only using half the table? Not sure how that would go but it's worth trying, I guess.

    Home Pool Tables

I have an Olhausen Remington 4 x 8 with leather pockets. It all depends on how much room you are going to have. I'd have preferred a 4 1/2 x 9 as that's what I played on for about 25 years but space and price were a factor. I've moved my table from the original house three times, always...

    tips on dealing with haters?

Now that I think of it, I don't think I have ever heard of a definition of a "semi-pro" pool player and I've been in/around the game a LONG time now. There are amateurs and professionals but I've never heard of anything else. Good one, PT!!!

    Opponents with headphones

That said, I often will not speak to an opponent during a match, other than to say the occasional "Nice shot!" I tend to concentrate on the game rather than the opponent. One reason I don't wish to play leagues, they are TOO DAMN social about the game.

    Honor

I'm old enough and been in the game long enough to have seen both sides of this. There are some people who I would consider "honorable" and others that I definitely would not. Pool seems to be a very egotistical game and ego seems to get the best of a lot of folks, professional and amateur...
