George Fels Memorial Straight Pool Challenge

Way too serious, in my opinion. I agree it would have been classier if he had let Dennis finish his run, but at that point the outcome was not really in doubt. We're happy to have guys like Orcollo (who conceded a game last year even earlier, as I recall) and Shaw play in the event, given...

Billiards Buddy 14.1 Score Counter now available in the App Store

Just correcting a mistake I made in the above. If the 15th ball is pocketed all 15 are racked but the cue ball remains in place if it is not in the rack. If it is in the rack, then it's cue ball in hand in the kitchen.

    John Barton Thread

I don't have a case-winning story but I'd like to describe John's concern for customer satisfaction. When I received my custom case from John 3.5 years ago, he said that if I wasn't happy with it in some respect he would start making me a new case (for no charge), and in the meantime I could...

    George Fels -- heart attack

A Story By His Son George played in our Red Shoes straight pool league in past years and I got to play against him a few times. I didn't know him well but I found him to be a perfect gentleman and a generous spirit. He usually gave me tips after the game or patiently answered my pool history...

Billiards Buddy 14.1 Score Counter now available in the App Store

I guess I haven't been paying attention. I ran into a rare situation the other day and thought that Billiard Buddy didn't handle it, so I made a mental note to think through it later so I could tell Tim (Arsenius) about it. It turns out, however, that Tim was ahead of me - the special...

Stats Question for Bob or Dr. Dave

Although Bill is just one person and your mileage may vary, etc. etc., I think his carefully compiled stats is the best indicator I've ever seen about what kind of skill it takes to run a hundred. Only 5 out of 324 runs over 50 go over 100? Unbelievable, but you have to believe it because...

Are jump cues allowed on that brand new Simonis?

    Schuler cues

I second that. Ray certainly enjoyed being a cuemaker and a billiard player, and Cathy's husband. I play with an older Schuler, circa 1983, and love it. But I believe his later cues are just as good. I also believe that Noel Mendoza builds a true Schuler. I have no first or second hand...

Who's going to the red shoes 14.1 wq?

It's over, it was July 6. Eric Hincks and Bob Cozzolino won. See this thread: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=323238

Where can you buy shaft socks?

I can't resist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBWUIYbIZfA With those hats for cues, you probably have to put the shafts in tip-up. Otherwise they come off and it would be hell trying to fish them out of the case.

    BBC and Co.

I went looking on youtube to find this old song and I was really surprised at the record label: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrogv6Hz0V8 You'll see that it does relate to billiard history, in a way.

    commentators get your stuff together

I liked Danny's commentary. He's not a chatterbox like most "color commentators" but he knows what he's talking about when he does talk. As far as I know he's doing it for free and, anyway, how can you complain about a free stream?

    Old 14.1 program

I don't know how Dallas averaged >150 in the 1975 tournament but I did find that a Robert Jewett competed in that tournament. As for Niagara Falls, Mike Sigel won and Jim Rempe was second. Both ran 150 in the tournament, Sigel doing it twice.

    Reyes: Creative Straight Pool

This clip may have been posted before but I hadn't seen it. It shows a young looking Efren Reyes running a couple of racks in a tournament. The first rack has a great masse shot and then Reyes manufacturing a break ball in a way that neither Bill Incardona nor Danny Diliberto saw coming...
