    Rambow signed cues

Hi, Mr. Bond - I sold the cue probably 45 years ago but I'm very sure that it looked like the photo below, except with my name. The signature was just as flowery as that one. I had assumed that Herman had signed it himself but what did I know? I don't know if it was burnt or signed in ink...

How long have you been playing with your cue?

Just about 30 years with the Schuler in the avatar, though there were many years during that period when I wasn't playing at all. I love that cue. Please nobody kidnap it and hold it for ransom.

    Rambow signed cues

I was surprised to learn that Herman didn't sign his cues himself, but Mr. Bond would know. I bought a $50 cue (with two shafts) from Herman around 1964. I don't recall being asked if I wanted him to sign it but if I had been asked I would have said yes. That late in his life he was signing...

What is the best pool hall you ever played in? And where is it?

No, Pockets is a different place. What's your real name? I'll look for the photo, it must be there somewhere.

What is the best pool hall you ever played in? And where is it?

Not that I've been in all that many, but my vote is for Red Shoes Billiards in Alsip, IL, a near south suburb of Chicago. And the great thing is .... it's still open!. Very nice and well-maintained Gold Crowns, strong players, frequent tournaments, a bar with a very good though limited grill...

    Ray Martin and Me

Great report, Lou! Late last summer my wife and I were going for a week down there and I actually intended on taking a lesson from Ray. But then I read that he was going to play in the World's during that same week so the idea went by the boards. Once again, your wife proved she is the...

    Quick-clean? How often?

One problem I experienced with Quick-Clean - I think everybody has the same problem - is that after you're halfway done with the can the foam tends to spray in big glops which wet the table and can leave a stain. They give directions on how to spray to avoid the glops but I have never been...

2012 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

Thanks, John. It's awfully nice to get a pat on the back from a great player like you. Just watching you run balls - in person and on video - is really an inspiration. Nobody makes it look as easy as you do. I only look younger than you, Junior. I'm posting big numbers these days...

    Pool Cue Extentions

My experience with extensions is the same as yours - when using them the part of the cue sliding through your fingers is the varnished part near the joint, and it doesn't slide easily. I bought a glove to use on these occasions and it helps, but then it becomes a hassle to put the extension on...

    Goodbye Sniper ... Onyx rules!

I went from Sniper to Onyx. I like them both but Onyx looks better and they're easier to install (so I'm told). The price difference is a pretty minor consideration given how long they last.

Best tool for burnishing tip sides?

Ray Schuler showed me his way. Moisten the sides with spit and then take a paper towel, crumple it, put it over the tip and twist with pressure on the sides.

    Joint protectors?

I started using a custom set (long ones) to be able to pull the butt and shafts out of the deep case I was then using. I still use them even now but I agree they're probably unnecessary. I've never seen a pro use them.

    Smoking at tournament matches

John, you're a relatively new poster and I think you will soon learn like I did to avoid smoking and aiming threads [then why am I posting in a smoking thread? Because I search for my favorite posters, which include you and Lou]. As a smoker it's impossible for me to read these threads without...

From Alfie to Allison Fisher & friends

Don't let it get to you, Alfie. People get misunderstood all the time on the forums, it's just part of the package. Let it roll off. I'm looking forward to the book.

    Fu***** smoking a$$ pool halls

I'm glad Illinois is nonsmoking. Forcing me to smoke outside saves me from feeling guilty when I read posts like this.
