Keith McCready Coming on Podcast - Have a Question for Him?

Great person to interview- legendary player with personality! Here are a few questions I’d like him to answer: 1. At what age did you first start playing pool? Did you have a high level of natural ability from the beginning? 2. The sidearm cueing technique is quite unique. How and why did you...

    Cue length

It all comes down to personal preference and results. After Earl, Shane, and Shaw started using one years ago, I gave a 6 inch extension a try and I've really liked it- it adds power and I feel like it stabilizes my stroke- it may be a placebo, but I think I play better with it. I'm not tall-...

    SVB Shorter Cue

Several players have experienced quite a bit of success playing with an extension- Shaw won many tournaments and I think was using one for his high runs in straight pool. SVB has been using one for the vast majority of the time for the past 10 years and Kaci has used one with great success...

Both have also been very successful playing with the extension as well

Shot Clock - What's the point?

I agree- I have to get up a 5:30 AM. I play in a Tuesday night league which sometimes runs to midnight. I used to be able to handle it well when I was young, but now I am 50- can't handle sleep deprivation as well. It is definitely annoying when games take so long. We also have a rule that each...

    Mika Immonen not doing well

prior to reading the BD article, I didn't know that Mika had a twin brother who was also very good at pool. So sad that he passed recently- a lot of hardship in the Immonen family of late.

St. Louis Louie vs. Archer 1990

oh- that makes sense now- I thought he would have to spot the ball he just made, but I guess any lower ball would suffice

St. Louis Louie vs. Archer 1990

after Johnny scratched shooting the 5 ball, why did the 1 ball get spotted up at the 1:13:05 mark?

    Ultimate Pool Kansas City Open

I think it is clear that pool needs something like a chess clock- makes playing and watching so much more enjoyable to have time restrictions

    Ultimate Pool Kansas City Open

Sorry- thought his name was Smith- I feel bad for him. He had the match in hand

    Ultimate Pool Kansas City Open

My one gripe is that they don’t use American 8 ball rules- I prefer call shot, ability to shoot opposite combos first shot after the break, and that you keep shooting after spotting 8 ball if it is made on the break. I feel bad for Smith- he had Sky beat but then made the 8 on the break but no...

Break Stats -- 2025 Ultimate Pool USA Kansas City Shootout (8-Ball), July 2025

I know some people knock these tournaments because it is played on bar tables, but I find them very entertaining- it is interesting to see how they approach runouts and the shot clock keeps the matches moving along quickly

Any videos of Dr Dave in an actual match?

True, players usually don’t get dramatically better if they’ve been playing for awhile and there may be a ceiling, but I think part of it is just not playing enough and not the right level of competition. For example, the best I ever played was when I was playing on a consistent basis and...

Any videos of Dr Dave in an actual match?

Dave is definitely a solid player. When I asked him in a thread a few years ago what his estimated fargo rate would be- he said around what you said, maybe a bit higher. On a side note, I wonder what the pocket size is for those tables- seem to play quite generous.

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

I understand your rationale, but in a dark bar with players under the influence of alcohol, there would be endless arguments about whether a ball was moved. I get the complexities you brought up with only cue ball fouls, but in the 20 years of league I’ve played in, those have rarely happened-...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

I agree- the league I play in has enough arguments over petty things- don't want to add all ball fouls because it would just be another thing to argue about.

Up and coming cue makers to invest in???

I'm not into collecting custom cues, but I know in the LA area that Carlos Coll makes great custom cues and also repairs cues/tips very well
