Calcutta's can be time consuming and if the tournament drags on adjustments need to be made. The last adjustment that needs to be made though is doing away with the calcutta. Many of the people running these local tournaments need to take a class on running a tournamnent to make things smoother...

I use a piece of clear tubing slit down the side. Bought at lowes in the plumbing aisle. I think the ID is 1/2 in.

I've got one of those lathes. It takes a while to get things set up, but once things are set up, you can do most any shaft repair on the tip or joint end. There are better options out there, but if you need this machine for your car shop, it can be used for cue repair work also. My Smithy is out...

If the conversion is gonna have a wrap then I don't think that you'll have any problems because a piece can be spliced into the butt under the wrap to lengthen the cue back out. If you want wrapless, you might be stretching things a little depending on the butts diameter at different spots along...
