More cue forensics - Wimpy Lassiter

I owned a cue that was made for lassiter with a 9 ball rack inlaid in the butt. I believe it was made for him by meucci. Probably a gift. I wonder if the cue is still around in someone's collection. I saw him playing in the 60s and he was playing with a Martin. Not long after I got one. I think...

Just started watching the 10 ball on ultimate pool.

To be honest these tables don't really meet the definition of what most people believe as a bar table. Other than their size these tables play great they use conventional set of balls good cloth its really nothing different in the game other than the table is smaller. Years ago when I played...

Just started watching the 10 ball on ultimate pool.

Earlier in the tournament I heard the commentators talking about stalling the clock. And one of them said if you got caught doing it it was a foul. I could see somebody walking around acting like their strategizing letting the clock run that's one thing. Standing over your shot just staring at...

Just started watching the 10 ball on ultimate pool.

Actually this has been pool as we know it for many years. There's probably 10 players playing on small bar tables around the country for every own that plays in a pool room. My problem was the rules they are playing by. You take a player who can hardly play, give them a big spot, Set a time...

    Color of Money Shot Recreated

I wouldn't really call that The color of money shot because that's a common shot done by almost every trick shooter in an exhibition. I'll tell you one shot you can recreate which is not original but not common either. It's the shot to Jack klugman does the opening of The Twilight episode a...

Do you see Challenge (winner stays on / quarters on the rail, waiting to play the winner) tables going on anymore?

Pill pool isn't just one game. There are a number of games you can play with pills. You can have a number of players often 5 or 6, like a poker game.

    Rules Question - Why

I was going to make that comment but thought no one would believe it. I had it happen. The reason it happens is the ball return feed into a center channel an then go to the ball box. The side pockets channels line up. It is funny on one of those tables if you drop two balls in the tables foot...

Do you see Challenge (winner stays on / quarters on the rail, waiting to play the winner) tables going on anymore?

I played in a bowling alley that had a 12 table pool room. It had a pill pool game that went on everyday. It would run all day till closing around 2am. The key was the bet was low. Quarters and halves. But, this is 1960 dollars. In the course of the day 30 or 40 different players may be in and...

Do you see Challenge (winner stays on / quarters on the rail, waiting to play the winner) tables going on anymore?

This thread has me thinking back how different things are today. I remember the House of Lords billiards I played in when I was a kid. We were like the Bowery boys and every kid thought they were going to be road players. Only a few of us really got any good at the game and continued to play.

That used to be ring games and pill pool games. They were for the most part open games .

Do you see Challenge (winner stays on / quarters on the rail, waiting to play the winner) tables going on anymore?

It's funny that we're talking about quarters, when's the last time a game of pool on a bar table cost a quarter. I remember playing a guy one night and I think the table was maybe 50 or 75 cents. And we were playing nine ball six ball that way you use all 15 balls so you get to play two games...

Do you see Challenge (winner stays on / quarters on the rail, waiting to play the winner) tables going on anymore?

I think that was part of the incentive to add more tables and ultimately some bars became mini pool rooms with like four and five tables. I had a place, a strip bar, where I used to really win a lot of money. This place had a very transient crowd you could go in there every night and hardly ever...

Do you see Challenge (winner stays on / quarters on the rail, waiting to play the winner) tables going on anymore?

Yeah way back when that was the backbone of pool hustling in bars. Well it might sound nickel dime today just playing for a few dollars a game in a busy bar you could grind out 30 40 $50 in a good night. Plus they were everywhere you never ran out of places to go and play. The secret was no...
