    League standards???

The foul (under BCA rules) would come under Rule 1.16.1 The shooter moved the 8-ball into the path of the CB, interfering with its roll and resulting in a CB foul. This would also be called by an APA referee, although it's not covered directly in the APA rule book. I'm not familiar with VNEA...

    League standards???

If I've got this right, the opponent bridged over the 8, made his ball, and drew the CB back into the 8. Why would this be a foul? I've never played VNEA league, but it's not a foul in APA or by BCA rules that I ever heard of. If the CB came back and hit his hand or stick, yes; but CB...

APA-What is the deal with them?

9BD - Is this APA 9-ball? If so, the standard APA match-up would be a 3 making 25 balls against a 9 making 75. Even a "1" has to make 14 balls - where did the 3 balls come from, and did the APA approve of changes to their basic rules? Sounds like you guys need to contact St. Louis and find...

    Cleaning Irish Linen Wrap

You might try Quick-Clean from www.billiardsexpress.com - I've heard good things about it as a table cleaner, and it's advertised as good for Irish linen wraps, too. I think Tom in Cincy posted something about cleaning tables with it a while back; he might have some insight on using it on...

    The Tomatoing Of Fast Larry

Bill - It DOES have an "Ignore" feature. Click on "User CP" at the top of the screen, go down to "Buddy/Ignore List" on the left side, and you can enter names of posters you don't want to read. HTH, Walt in VA

    rare woods

I don't think it's too rare - I had a lot of lignum vitae scrap from the local shipyard (at one time it was used for tailshaft bearings, as the natural oil combined with the sea water to make them self-lubricating.) It is VERY hard and heavy (will sink, not float, in water) and the natural oils...

    Changing weight on predator cue?

The Predator I had was not a break cue, but a LE99. After removing the butt cap, I found a steel weight bolt with a 6MM hex key head. (You can pick up a set of metric Allen wrenches at most auto supply stores.) Removing it dropped the weight and improved the balance, IMO. Walt in VA

    Talisman Pro Medium Tips

A buffing wheel charged with jeweler's rouge or other stick-type polishes creates intense heat almost instantly. This can affect the integrity of the ferrule installation or actually melt the ferrule. A risky procedure for a cosmetic benefit, IMHO. Walt in VA

    Talisman Pro Medium Tips

Try using a tip tapper, but DON'T tap, just roll the tip across it to apply some knurling to the surface. It will hold chalk w/o damage to the tip. FWIW, I've used Talisman Hard WB tips on all my shafts for a couple of years. I brush the chalk on LIGHTLY before every shot (part of my...

    7 foot ceiling

Check out the TroubleShooter at www.billiardsexpress.com - comes in 24", 36", 42", and 48" lengths. These are weighted to give a full-length cue "feel"; they don't have the awkward feel of a cut-down house stick. These run in the $30-35 price range depending on length. If you need a short...

    1 more question about cues

I currently shoot with a Schon STL-7, although I also have an STL-11 and an old R-14 from the mid-80's. I love the hit from all of them; just "feels right" to me. I bought a Predator Limited Edition in '99, changed tips several times, but just couldn't get the "feel" I was looking for in...

    Cue tip replacement...

Congratulations! As long as you take your time, there's no reason you can't get great results with the hand tools you have. I did it by hand for years before I got mechanized. After going through LePro and one-piece WB tips, I have finally settled on the Talisman WB Hard tips for all my...

    Cue tip replacement...

Just a thought - if you're installing a layered tip you may not want to use the felt-tip marker on the sidewalls. Some of the layered tip manufacturers warn against it because the solvent in the marker ink may react with the glue bonding the tip layers together and cause delamination. I just...

Need Advice on Bridge & "Shortie" Cue

A couple of my friends carry these Spinelli bridge heads in their case pockets and like them because they are light and provide good stability and lots of different heights. They seem pretty durable, although I did see one guy pull the tip off a house cue trying to remove it. For home use, you...

Need Advice on Bridge & "Shortie" Cue

Check out the "Trouble Shooter" cues at www.billiardsexpress.com These come in various lengths from 24" ($27.50) to 48" ($36.50) and are weighted to give a full-cue feel. They also have a variety of detachable bridge heads that will slip on a break or house cue. I've always gotten good service...
