I've had the same problem as well and the only thing I can come up with is that the tip I recently had put on is a crappy one because I tooke a good look at it and I can see that the tip seems to be loose in the middle of it and that's whats causing that noise but I could be wrong as well ...

Yes good point Pat about how loose his wrist is , now I've got a very similer stroke like that with the loose wrist and I've been stopped by other players asking me how I play like that , I'll have to post a video sometime of my stroke .
