A visit from Scott Lee ... The man knows his stuff... This is long but worth the read

All I can say about Scott is he helped my game, a lot! I first went to Randy's Pool School, which introduced me to the concepts that an individual lesson with Scott would later solidify. I would suggest that sequence to anyone. Go to pool school. After about 6 months solidifying what you learn...

New pool room Help and ideas

Keep the volume reasonable. The place I play has all the speakers up with the pool tables and none down in the bar area/front desk area. The volume control is at the front desk where there are no speakers. So depending upon who is working the front desk they crank it up so that they have the...

New pool room Help and ideas

I agree with Neil's sentiments here. A band I find incompatible with pool, either the pool will ruin the music or the music will ruin the pool or both. The place I'm forced to play in is what I heard one person refer to as a "nightclub with pool tables". I think that is an apt description, are...

    Wow Jasmine is for real.

Actually fast and slow twitch fibres have more to due with speed of muscle contraction then strength persay. Sprinters have a higher percentage of fast twitch than marathoners for instance. I'll pretty sure that world class weight lifters will have a lot of slow twitch. What having a high fast...

Had my shaft turned down, may be regretting it.

Seems to me that .45 mm is a pretty drastic change and might take a while to get used to. Did you consult with the OB-1 folks about why they were 12.75 and not less and if they thought 12.3 was a good idea? My current playing cue is 12.5, I wouldn't want to go any smaller.

    My home-made ball polisher.

I wouldn't mind seeing that myself.

    Whitten vs. Murnak

I own both and actually they both sit in the closet while I use my Instroke Buffalo 3x5. Personally I like the Whitten much better. The leather is much nicer and it just has a classier appearance. As to protection, storage pockets, etc.; it is a toss up not much difference. I'd go strictly with...

    A Lot Of Missing Posters

I'm married to a Polish-American woman. You might find that that activity starts to taper off after a while too. :)

    A Lot Of Missing Posters

I think it is simple really and has nothing to do with the economy, flaming, or anything that dramatic. People stop posting frequently for 2 reasons: 1. The are busy elsewhere, upswing at work, new hobby, etc. 2. They are bored with the forum. The thrill is gone baby. I think it is as simple...

    Questions about Shane Van Boening

Pat makes a very nice cue.

So has our countries economic disaster effect you personally, or your Pool playing

It has effected me in any day-to-day way (yet), but it has beat the hell out of my 401K. It makes my retirement at 66 (4 more years), which was questionable to begin with, out ot the question. It could effect me in the here and now before long. I work for a company in the financial sector and I...

    Exactly what I was thinking.

    wrapless cue care.

Good point about the clear coat.

    Don't do this!

That would suggest to me that the Uniloc system is not a good system for most pool players. Most don't even wipe down their shafts after use, there is no way the kind of maintenance you described earlier is going to occur.

How to treat a cork wrap...?

I think a professional restorer is what is called for. However, it may be more valuable unrestored.

    wrapless cue care.

Pledge is what I use. Works great. Normally I just wipe it down, but periodically a little pledge seems to bring it back to life. This was also on a cuemaker's recommendation.

    Capelle's Practicing Pool

I don't have this book, but will probably get it after reading the reviews. I might suggest, if you don't have it yet, a book (booklet? pamphlet?) by Joe Tucker called guaranteed improvement. He has some good drills in there.

How do the following earn a living - today?

I think you're right, the old model didn't really work and certainly wouldn't today. A different model is needed. However, there is still the possibility that pool as a professional sport is beyond help. Let us hope the solution is not speed pool.

How do the following earn a living - today?

Though I think in Efren's case, at least in the Philipines, his endorsement will be of value as long as he lives.

8 ball: Going for the runout!

That is a runout worth trying for. Given the table layout, I think the chances of running out are greater than the chances of obtaining a good safe.
