First Break Cafe in Sterling VA has 8 9-foot Diamonds in great condition. Great place to play.

    New game. thoughts?

I like it. Here's a possible change or variation off the top of my head. Since all that matters is the number of balls pocketed, how about if the incoming player always has the option to play in forward or reverse order? This would keep the first shooter after the break from having that...

Diamond tables don't seem that great.

You're obviously describing a coin-op bar box. If you're playing on that, who cares? Diamond 9-footers are the best tables I've played in my 54 years in the game. Period.

What is the most effective Handicapping System that is easy to understand?

Either FargoRate or NPL is the way to go. I play in an NPL league and it works great. FargoRate now has league management software as well.

    Straight pool break shot ghost

Check out Grady Matthews' "Break Shots and Key Balls" Accu-Stats video. http://www.accu-stats.com/Cat2019.pdf It's very helpful for dealing with straight pool's break shots.

John Schmidt Watch - May 2019

When he breaks the record, and I'm sure he will, it needs to be national news. It would be a big boost for pool and John. Is anyone of consequence with media ties working with him to publicize the record-breaking run when it happens? Barry Hearn? Joe Rogan? He should be booked on the Today Show...

What % of players can run 100+ in straight pool

It's nowhere near 5%. I'd say less than 1%. I'd bet only players with a Fargo rating of 700 or more would be able to run 100 with any consistency.

    Whats the deal with Accustats?

I've never had a problem with Accu-Stats in 25 years. Have you spoken to Pat Flemming directly?

Larry the Cable Guy and Lorrie

Yeah. He shouldn't have done that. It would have been nice if he offered to buy her a new one. He can afford it.

Do you tip the table mechanic?

If the mechanic owns the company, no. If the owner has a helper, tip the helper. It the mechanic doesn't own the company, tip.

Let's Make Jump Sticks, Tite Racks Illegal

The jump cue is the worst "innovation" pool has ever produced. I love Pat Flemming, but I wish he never came up with this idea. Jump cues make it MUCH too easy to jump over balls to get out of tight spots, which greatly reduces the value of great safety play. Jumping with your full cue takes...

Concentration! How do the best do this?

The Inner Game of Tennis is a good one and you'll get a lot out of it. But pool, like golf, is a very different game in that you are not reacting to something (like a ball in motion). My favorite mental game book by far is Pleasures of Small Motions by Bob Fancher. I like the original, shorter...

    3 person competition format

We have a semi-monthly scotch doubles match. Here's what we do if one can't make it. A plays one game as a single against B and C as scotch double partners. If A wins, he posts a game won. If he loses, no one posts a win. This prevents a scotch doubles partner from throwing the game to...

Does table versatility help or hinder your game?

I think if you always play actual matches on the same type of table, you would be better off practicing on that same type of table. If you play real matches on many different types of tables, it probably doesn't matter much.

    Rating Inflation in FargoRate

With FargoRate, the only thing that really matters is the difference between players to determine a fair match. If player 1 is twice as good as player 2, he or she will have a rating that is 100 points higher and would have to give player 2 half of the games on the wire to make an equal match...

    Bert Kinisters 60 Minute Workout

After learning the fundamentals of the game by reading and practicing Bob Byrne's Standard Book of Pool and Billiards, the next thing I did was to buy Burt's 60-Minute Workout on VHS tape, which had just come out. Man did that change everything for me. Shoot all the shots every day and you'll be...
