Greg, I normally drill/bore the billet and stick a dowel in it. Long enough to do the operation I need. when done, drill and bore the billet to the size you need. Btw, misallignment of centers could also cause uneven spacing when you do cut the rings to size. Also a thing to look out for is...

Mike, how would I go about the cues proportion... if it's 42" with an .850 joint would the shaft and butt be 21" each? or I'd go with a 29" shaft and a 13" butt?

I was asked to make a cue for kid 5 years old and standing around 3ft tall... the father observed his kids liking to pool... I'm not sure how to go about with the cue length :confused: standard length shaft with short butt like jump cue? same shaft and butt length? Hadj

Prolly draw on a much easier CAD program then use mastercam as the g-code generator. I heard it's the foremost in CAM technology so they say... Anything that would make it easier to draw, no problem about the Gcode 'coz I could do manual editing in it later... Any user firendly CAD program...

Anyone have experience using mastercam v9 for CNC cue work? How does it rate? Thanks, hadj

IMO, a custom cuemaker could have his version of a "production cue" is say... a limited ed series, production in a small scale... while production cue companies could also have a " custom cue" if they're willing to have a cue made according to the customers specs. Now the gray area here is when...

You could try changing to a PVC ferrule even ABS which will give you a softer hit, coupled with an Elk Master or LePro. Melamine is still harder than the two above mentioned ferrules. Depends also on the shaft taper you have. Start with the ferrule/tip first then see how it feels. Hadj
