APA lowers the Axe on their Junior Program

I'm afraid I can't speak much to this topic. I don't have a Juniors program, so when the APA announced it to the LO network I didn't pay a lot of attention. I do know that the LO's who do have Juniors are very upset, and I know there are lots of hoops to jump through in this country just to...

APA, FARGO and the death of 8 ball.....

Heh, payback for every ball you make. So you never learn when to play safe because it's all about making balls, or maybe its about preventing your opponent from making balls instead of preventing them from winning the match. You can even win fewer games, as long as you make more balls. Or...

APA, FARGO and the death of 8 ball.....

Because you don't have to win to go to Vegas in BCA, you assume nobody is cheating. But every year I hear about teams who go there and should not be allowed in the tournament they're in, or individuals whose Fargo appears to be too low. "Nobody cheats in BCA" is just something you say to save...

Handicap systems don't punish, they challenge. And they all do it. Different ways, but they all do it. Name a handicap system that doesn't make it harder to win when you put the best players you can find on a team. It's an oxymoron. But congratulations on finding a league where you're not...

APA, FARGO and the death of 8 ball.....

I can see only two ways you would make it 5 out of 8 years in my area. One is to be on several teams and go with different teams. I once had a player who captained six teams a week, all with different rosters. He went several times over a twenty-something-year period, but never with the same...

If I'm reading this right you're saying you used to cheat when you played APA. It's a win/win that you don't anymore.

They. Don't.. That's. What. I. Previously. Said.. I. Do., Because. You. Just. Told. Me. I also said you have to do it repeatedly, and scorekeepers are going to get suspicious. Some of those scorekeepers are going to start marking it, to the point where you honestly dog a shot and...

APA, FARGO and the death of 8 ball.....

You missed a shot intentionally and it wasn't marked as a defense on either scoresheet. What part of that makes my statement untrue? You also have to do that repeatedly to have any real impact, and if you do it repeatedly scorekeepers are going to suspect your intentions, so you're not hiding...

APA, FARGO and the death of 8 ball.....

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but a 391 should have about a 33% chance of winning any game against a 485. That's less than 4% of the time for 3-0, yet we've all seen it happen. That's because the expected 2-1 ratio is over the long term, against similar numbers, not the short...

APA, FARGO and the death of 8 ball.....

Taking a harder stance against sandbagging pays off in the long run for an APA franchise. People quit because they think they have to sandbag to win and they don't want to. If players see the LO taking a harder stance (like kicking sandbaggers out when they have proof and raising skill levels...

Cheaters cheat. Some cheaters also run leagues and tournaments. Period. Grasp that.

Yeah, multi-rack 9-Ball matches it's harder to do because you're gonna lose some racks along the way, but single-rack 8-Ball matches that's less likely.

APA, FARGO and the death of 8 ball.....

I think you need to reevaluate this statement. In APA you have to game the scoresheet and get your opponent to do so as well, either through well-disguised defense that isn't marked or by plain old negotiation. I've seen both. Any APA LO caught falsifying scoresheets loses his franchise...

APA, FARGO and the death of 8 ball.....

That part is even easier now with the Scorekeeper app. It's easier for the LO AND easier for the players. One of those tools that was developed over the years. But the part that has to happen in between, that part is the work the LO puts in "under the water", so to speak. It doesn't...

Oh, people cheat in APA but those same people don't cheat in Fargo? Excuse me, I forgot about the magic word. I didn't realize they suddenly all became honest in Fargo. Perhaps the way to cheat in Fargo is to keep your own rating down while keeping others up. What, that's a natural...

If it's such easy money, maybe you should give it a try, if you can get through the vetting process. Try it first, then come back here and tell us how easy it is. Many of us are like ducks, we look calm and peaceful to everyone else but underneath we're pumping like crazy just to stay afloat...

Did you see him play, or look him up yourself? Or are you just taking the word of someone on the internet because they said the magic word? I will take your bet, I bet some people at APA looked into him before he ever got to Vegas, looked into him after every match he played there, then looked...

Growing pool? Sure. How else would you do it? Business model? The business model for my and all other successful APA franchises is provide a product that appeals to a large audience, including beginners and novice players (no audience is larger). Part of that appeal is definitely the...

There's incentive to cheat in any system, even no system. Local oversight is not necessarily bad, but it does require someone who is both knowledgeable and conscientious. And globally linked data is not necessarily a good thing if you're talking about cheating (which you are).

APA, FARGO and the death of 8 ball.....

Not for the 9's. They have the edge against a random player of any skill level, because they can improve and not go up. There is a point, near the bottom of the SL9 range, where the 50-50 rule applies, but none of the improving 9's ever go up so it gets easier to fade the spot. Just looking...
