Install disaster yesterday...I want to give up

When I observe work done like this I don't think they're going to make me happy with any attempt at doing better. I know if I don't do it it's not going to be done right. At least with the ball return system and gully boots. I'm not exactly sure how the cloth should be installed and I've never...

Install disaster yesterday...I want to give up

You are correct I am the customer. I shouldn't have paid them. They did do something though. Considering that they're ok with that type of work I'm not sure I want much more out of them.I don't know exactly how the cloth should have been done and I was unaware that those were the wrong boots...

Install disaster yesterday...I want to give up

Thanks! The guy thought that they might be wrong when the ball was getting caught on them. Not with the fitment at the rail. I didn't know what to think after watching his handy work. He also never heard of 4's having any corner sagging problem. Unfortunately the money is getting pretty tight...

Install disaster yesterday...I want to give up

My Gold Crown IV was installed yesterday and it can't be played on it until I repair the poor work done on it. I thought I was going to have my brother over tonight and play some pool. I don't have the desire to fix this right now. I've spent a lot of money to have a great playing pool table...

Can't find the pictures for the GC IV frame corner sag solution

My table wasn’t sagging but I’m doing it as a precaution. I want to weed out as many potential problems as I can. I could literally be using this table for s few decades. I do know the problem exists because the room I used to play in had GC IVs and some of them developed a corner sag. Sent...

Can't find the pictures for the GC IV frame corner sag solution

I'm very close to setting my table up. I want to perform the corner sag repair. I know there were photos on here but I can't find them. Could someone point them out to me? Thanks!

Which cuemakers build thinner handle cues?

I don’t know the exact dimension but a Leon Sly I had built last year was on the slim size. Beautiful cue but too slim for my taste.

Which size pool "just for fun" if room size is not an issue?

    Without question a 9 footer.

Is a custom cue really worth the hassle these days?

The answer for me is yes. The easiest way to buy a custom is to buy something that is already built. If you do want something custom be prepared to wait and use a reputable cue maker. I’ve waited anywhere from 12 years to 8 weeks. The last cue I got took about 16 months.

If you carry 2 or more shafts

I always carry 2 shafts for my player. I also carry a sneaky with me in case I need to change it up a bit. The sneaky had an extra shaft as well. I typically break with my player and can crack them pretty hard. The extra shafts keep my player in the game should s mishap occur. Oddly enough it's...

Jay Helfert and the other senior members

When I gave up the game 10 years ago I was only interested in 8 and 9 ball. It seemed that one pocket was being played then but not like it is since I started playing again last fall. Now that I'm playing again Straight Pool has become my main interest.

After many I've settled on my player!

I snoozed on one earlier this year otherwise I would have. It's got to have a maple forearm. Someday. Unfortunately I don't come into contact with many guys with the cues I'm interested in. I'm usually buying and trying blind.

After many I've settled on my player!

I've got the Gilbert J/B which seems like it'd be a good player with a different tip. I haven't hit a ball with it and I haven't had tip installed. I'm going to sell it. I want to stick with the Kent Davis. I do admit if the right Bobby Hunter showed up(Ebony Merry Widow). I'd have a hard time...

After many I've settled on my player!

I'm not saying I will never consider another cue but for right now I'm very pleased with the Davis as my main player and the Josey as a backup. All others that I have will be for sale. Once I started to play again I figured out I should have never stopped. I truly love the game and want to...

After many I've settled on my player!

As mentioned before I started playing in Fall of 2016 again after a near decade absence from playing. I had sold my cues other than a Jim Buss sneaky which I didn't particularly like the shaft taper after having it altered back when I was playing. When I quit I played a Southwest and carried the...

What are you working on now?

I'm currently working on my basement so I can start working on my GC IV. I'm getting close and hope to be training on it by Halloween. I have quite a bit of material to work on. I also started reading "Play Your Best Straight Pool". It's become my favorite game.
