    Glove Or Powder

"I don't get the analogy to golf or batting gloves" How don't you get it...a glove worn on the hand that serves a specific function which aids you in that activity. I'd say they all fall under that category even though a billiard glove is designed to battle friction. I would know, because my...

    Glove Or Powder

How long have you been using the glove? I would suggest you give it some time to see if you can get used to it. I tried the glove and didn't care for it at first and shelved it for a while. I gave it another try and the 2nd time was the charm. At first you feel a little disconnected from your...

Why is it, That one shot changes everything ?

Good thought provoking question Steve!! Sometimes when I'm shooting and don't feel right, I just think to myself, "ride it out, you can play through this and find that gear". I think most of the time there might be something I'm doing a little differently that I'm unaware of. When I grind it...

Blue Diamond Chalk Wearing Out Ferrule???

I don't think a cuemaker is going to know any more about chalking than any other player who chalks a cue thousands of times. I think you asked the right people but you don't like the answer. You got a little pissy and people started making a joke of the thread. Normally people who play well know...

Banks Banks I hate Banks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice avatar!!! How long have you been playing? The key to good banking relies on several things. First maybe you should find a simple banking system which will help you to start to "see" the bank. I found mine early on in the book "The 99 Critical Shots in Pool". Start out by making bank shots...

    Cloth color choice.

Ding ding ding...we have a winner!!!! I guess I would have to ask if you were to go into a pool hall and every table was a different color, which color would you pick to play on? Whatever your answer is, is the color your table should be.

What cue material don't you like????

For me, it would have to be lead. The thought of a thirty pound cue just doesn't do it for me. Plus, you can't lick your cue, and I've already had to swear off of paint chips so I'm going to lick my cue. Of course, that was just a poor attempt at humor and seriously, I would also say purpleheart...

English vs. english vs. side spin

Justadub, I'm not trying to be an a-hole, I'm just trying to keep the integrity of the word and its uses for the sake of this whole debate. The English that we speak is a noun and can also be used as an adjective, and the English that we use on a cue ball is a noun.

English vs. english vs. side spin

I agree with the upper/lower case distinction between our use of the word, but I don't believe english used on a cue ball is a verb. You apply english to a ball...you don't english a ball.

    English?

I just thumbed through a few books and Phil Capelle, Robert Byrne, Ray Martin as well as the BCA rulebook all define english as sidespin only. I would say these are pretty well respected authorities in the modern age of pool and it is what I base my opinion on. But, it seems there are clearly...

    English?

I didn't know the exact origin of the word, but I don't think it's neccessary to know that to understand that sidespin is "english" and top/botttom, center ball, high/low, along the center axis is follow, stun or stop, and draw. Sure, you can combine the two, english with draw or follow, but...

Playing to the level of competition?

I agree, you have to have that mindset no matter who you play. I play against very good friends and when we're at the table, I want nothing more than to crush them. Anyone who is playing you is trying to beat you, and you have to say to yourself "I will have none of that!".

    FS Rosewood Titlists

I have 2 left but one of them is going to be chosen by someone I have been in contact with...if that makes sense? One of them is stamped 19, and the other is one of the real old ones and is not stamped, so it depends on which one he chooses.

FS? Taking offers on Harold Worst cue

I have one, maybe two Harold Worst signature cues that I may be willing to part with. These are not high quality cues but are more a rare piece of history attached to one of the greatest to hold a cue ever. They're just like the one in this pic...make an offer:D
