Cue Ball Deflection Ranges for 7 Fractional Aims

I think these images will be useful to those of us who don't have a really sharp visual of what can be done with the cue ball after collision with the object ball. I figured that each fractional aim has to have a range of post-collision cue ball paths from softest follow to most severe draw, so...

    Soft Follow Cue Ball Paths

Oh yeah! I forgot about that. I guess the peace sign is close enough for most shots. I just made pool more complicated. Just keeping in mind that 30 degrees is most accurate for 3/4-ball and 1/4-ball shots, and then adjusting for the greater deviation for the fractions in between those two...

    Soft Follow Cue Ball Paths

Maybe. It sounds familiar. Remind me how it's done.

    Soft Follow Cue Ball Paths

Thanks. Yeah, it's all fun to me as long as I'm improving. It's nice to see a family that reads so much and not just social media.

    Soft Follow Cue Ball Paths

I don't know why this completely escaped me, but I didn't have to do the third measurement after I already did the second, or vise versa. The first and third angles add up to the second angle. What's also interesting is how symmetrical the 3/8 ball shot is. It's the perfect "Y" shape. I would...

    Soft Follow Cue Ball Paths

Thanks, Brian. I'd love to play sometime. This table is all I've played on for about 8 months. I just don't get out anymore, but it's great to have a table at home. Your table is sweet. I still follow your YouTube channel. Great work!

    Soft Follow Cue Ball Paths

Trying to get better at position play, I decided to create a visual to see the straightest cue ball paths I could achieve for soft follow shots with fractional aims. Here are photos of the "Y" that results for cuts to the left corner pocket. The left edge of the bottom yardstick is the path of...

    Pros don't know the rules

I'm a little embarrassed to ask this, but I don't play in any leagues or tournaments so I'm allowed. Who makes the rules, where are the rules, and is everyone informed which rules are in play for a particular tournament? Also, are the rules printed that can be shown immediately to an opponent at...

My first video share (100 balls w/12 misses)

Thanks for the input, Dan! Yes, the balls do probably still have the Real Magic on them. It does help, but keep in mind I'm hitting the balls very hard too. The cloth is 860HR. Under the basement conditions I find it slow, but if you see it as fast, maybe I'm being too picky. I totally agree...

My first video share (100 balls w/12 misses)

Thanks, Poolmanis! I've been concerned about my wobbly bridge hand for a while. I'll take your advice and really work on it until it becomes naturally solid. And that's also good advice to choose bridge height earlier. I've been finding lately that one of the most important things for success...

My first video share (100 balls w/12 misses)

I hear ya', Lou! I think I have the same priorities in mind as the great players like eliminating problems first, always thinking insurance, and playing for zones that leave more than one option. But my position play and shooting skills may not be up to the task to follow through on a precise...

My first video share (100 balls w/12 misses)

I finally got the problem fixed. I had to mute the audio in order to upload the video to YouTube. I changed the link in the original post and here it is as well. https://youtu.be/rj2gqfLNKJo

My first video share (100 balls w/12 misses)

Sorry about that. I was listening to some good music while practicing. That must be a legal issue with YouTube. I'll fix it today and post back here when it's ready.

My first video share (100 balls w/12 misses)

Hey everyone. I just started recording my straight pool practice tonight. I never recorded myself playing straight pool. Rather than the usual way of practicing straight pool, I don't like stopping to re-rack after missing a shot. Instead, I like to throw the missed ball in a pocket, or take a...

What runs would you expect under these conditions?

Yeah, the cloth is still in pretty good shape. One thing that happened that might be contributing to the balls sticking at the rack is that a couple of shims fell out from where they were propping up a sag in the slate just below the rack, so the balls might be trying to travel a little bit...

What runs would you expect under these conditions?

BTW, with my homemade ball cleaner I always have to finish up by hand polishing anyway, so I wonder if I should just always polish by hand, and the cue ball doesn't get clean enough without putting the Aramith cleaner directly on it and polishing by hand.

What runs would you expect under these conditions?

Thanks, Dan. I did try the Real Magic today, and it does make everything more slippery and open up better, but I also noticed that my cue ball controlled suffered. Maybe I shouldn't have used the product on the cue ball. Anyway, I'm willing to try it for a bit. Thanks for the link and for doing...

What runs would you expect under these conditions?

Pt109, I'm not sure if it's the same pocket from the original photos. I took the original post's photos 9 months ago when I had the table set up. But all 4 corner pocket sizes are consistent. I guess the 10 ball is slightly away from the cushion. Anyway, whatever the pocket size is, it's tough...

What runs would you expect under these conditions?

Here are new photos. You'll see that they're maybe even smaller than 4.25" depending upon where you measure.
