10-ball rules: Miscue on the break, rack not touched?

I should add that sometimes you see the non breaker just break a normal break shot. This is legal but technically the next shot after that is a normal shot (i.e., neither player could play a push shot) and if you the breaker fouls on his next inning he’d be on 2 fouls. I don’t think I’ve ever...

10-ball rules: Miscue on the break, rack not touched?

Yes, of course you can do this. It is the standard play in 9b and has been for decades. It’s not addressed separately- it flows from the other rules. It is a foul (as you note). It is BIH. Any legal shot you shot next is legal (thin the 1b and hit a rail and you are good). Breaker is now on...

Calcutta Cease & Desist Order in Washington State

This is a common distinction (it may vary by location). In some places two players betting against each other on games of skill like pool is legal. Betting on games chance (like dice or a lottery) or mixed skill and chance (like poker) may be illegal (often except in legalized gambling...

This is a big advantage for online Calcuttas. They are done before the tournament so the tournament can start on time.

    Magic rack for 8 ball

The rack orientation (for the Magic Rack) is a good and helpful point. Some other notes: Balls wear out over time, and some balls wear out more quickly (in my view the 1b gets worn out faster because it is always the head ball in 9b/10b and often the head ball in 8b). For this reason I hide the...

    Break tips.. whats good?

I have an Outsville Hammerhead on my BK Rush. I like the way it breaks, but it doesn’t hold chalk well. I have to hit it with a tip pik all the time or I have a good chance of miscuing. I’d like to try the new Taom break tip (I presume 3.0) if they ever get them out. I’m also curious about the...

who's making the easiest/quickest/best fitting current butt end extension?

Ali Express also sells stackable extensions. I have one (bought from someone else but probably from there). They are cheaper than the Predator ones, stackable and made out of lightweight material (I don’t know if its CF or aluminum, but either way I like it better than the Predator).

Controversial Non-Call of WRONG-BALL-HIT-FIRST FOUL - Hanoi Open - Capito vs. Lechner Quarter Final

Here are a few videos of snooker players calling fouls on themselves with a referee presiding. Shaun Murphy double hit: Wilson feathering O’Sullivan touching And here is Jimmy White calling one in the days when cameras were so bad nobody would have ever seen it.

Controversial Non-Call of WRONG-BALL-HIT-FIRST FOUL - Hanoi Open - Capito vs. Lechner Quarter Final

If you’re trying to dump a match that way, you’re not doing a good job. Just touch the balls more clearly or feather the CB 2 inches and not a mm. Or just miss the ball or hook yourself. So I don’t think what I’m proposing carries any real risk on that front.

Controversial Non-Call of WRONG-BALL-HIT-FIRST FOUL - Hanoi Open - Capito vs. Lechner Quarter Final

I guess the issue here from my perspective is when whether there is a culture shift of the kind I’m talking about. At the moment, you could probably draw a distinction between a player touching balls, feathering etc where the player may feel it and the ref may not see it (I would probably...

Controversial Non-Call of WRONG-BALL-HIT-FIRST FOUL - Hanoi Open - Capito vs. Lechner Quarter Final

Another high profile example I can think of is when Mika called an obvious combo vs De Luna and the ref didn’t hear the call. They listened back to the tape and heard Mika call it. Imagine the injustice if the ref just hadn’t heard the clear call and Mika lost his turn because the ref couldn’t...

Controversial Non-Call of WRONG-BALL-HIT-FIRST FOUL - Hanoi Open - Capito vs. Lechner Quarter Final

I strongly disagree with this. I think we need a cutlure shift in pool. In snooker, pros routinely call fouls on themselves even with a ref standing right there - double hits, feathering the CB, touching another ball. Or telling the ref to move the CB to a worse position on a foul and miss...

Controversial Non-Call of WRONG-BALL-HIT-FIRST FOUL - Hanoi Open - Capito vs. Lechner Quarter Final

I have had players (and sometimes a TD) watch shots and clearly get the call wrong. I have never complained to them - if you call a ref you have to live with their decision whether it’s right or wrong. So I wouldn’t be so sure no one ever thought you got it wrong. Based on your comments on...

Where is your friend? If it’s Canada there are services that give you a post box at the US side of the border and will bring your package into Canada. Can be picked up here or mailed out by the service. I’ve used to get tips and free shipping on a shaft I bought.

    Calling all tip geeks............................

To me the main advantage of the modern tips is consistency. Ever since Moori lead the way with layered pigskin, the new tips are more consistent (both with each other - two mediums from the same company play similar - and during the life of the tip - a good medium plays pretty consistently...

I think we need to pressure Matchroom to get Bob and Dr Dave to do an intensive training session for these refs. So unfair to the players to have blatant mistakes like this effect them in a major tournament.
