WNT Hanoi Open 2025, Vietnam, Oct 7-12

This call was brutally bad. Indefensible. That said, I think Marcel usually gets it right. The only ones I can think of before this that he got wrong are the shot where Shane was kicking at the ball and made a good hit, or at least one that could not be called a foul, and their bizarre...

    10-Ball Last Rule

Does anyone actually play that way nowadays? I haven’t seen that is many years.

    WPA Rules Question

I don’t believe so. So the “smart” play is to sit your ass down and let the ref walk around the table and get all the balls, which serves the refs/organizers right creating/enforcing a stupid rule.

    WPA Rules Question

It’s a terrible rule, I agree. But as Bob said, ingrained habits are hard to break. The players “know” the rule but they’ve been pulling balls out for as long as they have been playing pool. It’s like the tournament in the Philippines where you had to expressly call the 10b even if it is...

    10-Ball Last Rule

Racking with a real rack is a problem if you don’t have very good independent rackers. If it’s rack your own they will make the wing ball 95% of the time. If it’s rack for your opponent it will lead to arguments. If it’s referee racking with non-skilled refs it will be a gong show, with players...

    10-Ball Last Rule

Ball in hand on a the 8b break in CSI vs behind the line (WPA) is another notable one. And now WPA is always all ball fouls.

    WPA Rules Question

I agree, and it’s especially galling that the habit being “punished” is one that arises from common courtesy. The current rule encourages players to be less courteous, not more, which is exactly backwards, IMO.

    The Big Ball

Are you saying you can draw with a billiard ball as a CB and a regular ball as the OB? Because it’s the difference in weight between the big (or heavy) CB and the normal OB that is the problem. If the OB was also big it would be no problem to draw it.

    Jump Cues

Many tips are sold as Jump/Break tips. The Cuetec Propel and Breach both used the Taom 2.0 J/B. And based on their new announcement, Cuetec’s new Kintrol tip will be on both. I assume Taom’s replacement for the 2.0 (not yet released) will also be a J/B. Some manufacturers are selling...

    Jump Cues

I have a Propel. Excellent jump cue. I have tried the Air Rush and didn’t find it jumped as well. But then a friend showed me his Air Rush where he replaced the stock tip with a Taom 2.0 and it jumps great. With that change, I think they both jump very similarly. One difference is that the...

    WPA Rules Question

When the rules get revised next I would like to see a distinction between balls in play and out of play. I don’t see any reason that moving balls, or giving it to a ref, or pulling them out (as per my original question) should be a foul at all. The only harm is if the moving CB hits one, but...

    WPA Rules Question

By that logic is moving out of play balls from one pocket to another a foul (either because one pocket is too full or because you don’t trust the plastic pocket not to spit a ball out if it is empty and hit at pace)? This was certainly common practice in past years.

    WPA Rules Question

Apologies if this has been covered before. In the WPA 10b doubles the issue of a player pulling balls out of the pocket before the CB stops moving came up again. This is not a case where the moving CB touches one of the balls; rather, the rule apparently is that it is a foul to take the balls...

    Daimoninzing New Valley

This is an interesting demonstration on how our background effects our perception. As I play predominantly on Diamonds, when I play on Valleys (about once a week), there are numerous times that I hit a ball badly and think I’ve missed it and it drops. Like I the rail a full diamond away and it...

    Daimoninzing New Valley

What do you usually play on? I play on 7’ Diamonds with worn cloth all the time and I find them very fair. Balls usually only rattle when I hit them bad. Valleys, by contrast, balls I miss by a diamond drop all the time (which I guess I like when I am the one shooting but hate when I’m sitting...
