Sportsbars and Pool....a Conundrum of Opposites

I've read this entire thread...some interesting perspectives and ideas for sure. Some are insightful, and obviously come from some real life experiences. The conundrum, I don't think is pool being in bars. I think the real conundrum is that pool ONLY exists in pool rooms and bars today. That...

    Challenge Match (Free Stream)

I only caught the last couple of games but it was good to see you play, Rhea. Thanks.

SBE crowd noise (and pool tourney crowd noise in general)

Well, people of pro pool have already got it so hardly anyone wants to play so I guess the only thing left is to make sure no one wants to watch either. Then they can have their quiet funeral. Every sport takes focus and concentration to execute, especially high level, and under extreme...

What's with all the low-balling nits???

Well, a long time ago the Dutch currency used to be tulips until one day out of the blue, tulips weren't worth a damn. Who says a pool cue has to keep some ambiguous, absurd value? A booming industry creates an overpriced, oversaturated market. And a cratering industry will bring everything...

    Ternament shakes

Control your breathing. When you feel the anxiety getting out of control, take a deep breath, hold it for a second or two and then let it out. Repeat this several times. Controlling your breathing will help your heart rate and your brain, and then you can simply focus your thoughts on...

BB Tournaments Will Bring Back Gambling

What sports have changed to make them easier? That's simple. ALL OF THEM! To use past examples...baseball equipment is far different than when the game started...from gloves and bats to the balls themselves...those advancements made the game easier. Playing football with hard shell helmets...

    playing on a 9' vs a 7'

Yeah, I agree, he's probably trying to do too much. He could also be putting more pressure on himself to perform since he's been playing "real pool" only for the last two years.

how are ya'll doing in league ?

It does help, thank you. Now I see why I was unable to simply figure it out. At least now when I read about your league nights I have some clue as to what the hell went on. LOL Thanks guys!

    Did I do wrong?

I think the OP performed a civil duty. Pool halls, if they're public, typically don't condone loud use of inappropriate language. You can get thrown out of a brothel or strip club if you're belligerent enough. And if a man cannot have a civil conversation with another man without one getting...

Rodney Morris and Edgie Geronimo Rematch? Tuesday, April 7th

I agree. Rodney was there in advance, and gave the ok. He also jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and the race was locked up at 14 apiece. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but to put more emphasis on the table or environment here rather than the play of each, is a bit unfair, imo. Congrats...

    Reyes-Bustamante 8-ball safety battle

Funny, I had to play an 8ball match like that once in a bar tournament...against a one pocket player. LOL

Would you be willing to dress nice to raise the opinion of billiards?

Yep, times have changed. Men used to wear suits and fitted hats all the time and only kids wore ball caps off the baseball field, often turned backwards. Today it's different. There's no denying that.

how are ya'll doing in league ?

One of these days I might figure out what all these ratings and points you guys talk about are and how all that works. Maybe. Some of ya'll have a lot to keep up with...lordy!

Would you be willing to dress nice to raise the opinion of billiards?

I only responded because I know the topic is a hot one for you. I'm just jerking your chain a little. I get it. :p

Would you be willing to dress nice to raise the opinion of billiards?

I would guess the same reason people wear athletic gear to non sporting events. Image and comfort. Dress shirts and slacks while playing pool seems no more ridiculous to me than a ball cap, jersey and shorts...in public where there's no sports going on. For grown men, at least. Kids, I...

Would you be willing to dress nice to raise the opinion of billiards?

Personally, I would but I understand why others wouldn't. I mostly wear chinos/khakis and polo shirts to work along with casual-dress footwear and that's about all it takes to feel out of place (over dressed) in most pool rooms or bars with tables. Aside from maybe a couple of upscale places...

    play safe or shoot?

We obviously disagree and that's fine. But I'm not looking to argue, only make a point. You've assumed way too much about me in each of your comments so I don't see a productive discussion here. I'm not sure you've ever played any other way. One day you might figure it out, maybe...

    play safe or shoot?

I don't mind variety in pool. For me, things don't always have to be the same, all the time. I find enjoyment in all the variations. Two foul is a great way to play, imo. I also prefer "old school" pool for watching, but admittedly, I am old school...so no surprise there.
