    Make Other Wood Products?

I've used my taper machine to make towel rack dowels. Tried to make an arrow once too. Made wine bottle stoppers and just bought the hardware to build a peppermill. It can get pretty boring turning shafts.

Things to think about before giving a cue away for free.

And chances are, he sold the cue at about a 50% discount knocking the value of your cues for everyone that owns one. I've given away cues to friends but doubt that I'll ever "sponser" a player. I don't do many discounts on sales either. I might move a little on the price I'm asking, but not much.

    Moori and Kamui tip Prices

I'm sure the price will jump if there is a shortage. I'm also sure that some will try and take advantage of the disaster in Japan and raise their prices even if the supply isn't effected. The phrase "Never let a crises go to waste" comes to mind.

how do you deal with a difficult customer?

Ditto. If It was one of mine, I'd fix it free. If someone else built it, I'd charge them.

8 year old in the "Pit" at SBE

Alot of our "Champions" have followed this same path. I know one in particular that was betting $40 a game while standing on a pop case. Less than 10 years old. High Action rooms breed action players. My local room hosted a Jr National qualifier years ago and I bet that I had 5 kids not old...

I like the way the veneers weave over and under each other on the butt sleeve. Nice.

    Break Shaft

I don't think it really matters what type of wood your break shaft is made from. The break in 9-ball is the most important shot of the game. My guess is your best break would come from your playing cue because that's what you're most comfortable with. Some might argue that some woods or tapers...

    Let's talk injuries

My worst injuries have been busted knuckles from working too close to the lathe chuck. My "paying" job is in manufacturing and I've seen injuries that will make your skin crawl so I've learned to have alot of respect for the tools we use. There's no short cuts when it comes to safety. Table saws...

Whats the best way to fix a warped shaft???

Hang on to the shaft for a while and it might get straight again:yikes:. I know it sounds funny but I played with a Schick for years and one of the shafts would bow up every spring and straighten back out when the weather turned cold in the fall. It never bowed to the point of being unplayable...

    Pool halls: crybaby central

I think that most players over-rate their games and when they play at their normal speeds they're looking for excuses. They lose because of bad rolls or bad luck. It's rarely because the other guy played better.

    cue shaft

I've got about a dozen lyptus shafts. I bought some boards several years ago at a wood store in Tenn. while visiting another cuemakers shop and then ripped them to size. I've only made the intial taper cut so far but if you need a couple, I'd be willing to trade something.

Complete turnkey cue shop still for sale .... $15,000.

I agree that you got a hell of a deal..Timing was bad for me. Lack of space. I even looked at renting a storage unit to store the equipment until I had the room. Congrats on a great buy and good luck with the addiction.

Does the stock cam follower setup reach that top taper bar or did you have to add a longer shaft?

    What's a good player cue for $500-$800

TAP! TAP! I've hit several of Dick's cues and they all played Jam Up.

    Shaft Wood

If I were buying a high end/collectable cue, I'd want super clean, heavy shafts. Not for their playability but because that's what the market accepts as "best". When I'm building an everyday player, my goal is to match 2 shafts to as close to the same weight as I can. With my taper, Most shafts...
