SJM at the Las Vegas Open

Not every kid - never mind the parents - wants to follow a normal path. Many sports greats have gone to unusual lengths in childhood to become what they were, with their parents influence or not. IMO not my place to judge Easton and her parents from the outside. I dont know what they want.

SJM at the Las Vegas Open

Far be it from me to disagree ... from what I can tell, most top and female male pros become quite proficient in all these intellectual/mental areas over time. And yet, I still see some who never reach the same high level as others. Why is that, in your view? Every pool player nowadays has...

Pro Billiard Series - Las Vegas Men's Open 10ball live now

The Teams event is very entertaining, but I think the matches run too long. I am not sure how to shorten it, though. Two of three sets would seem to short. Three of five is a lot, especially with players consulting so much. Hayden Ernst took a couple of gambles in his final set vs Januarta, and...

SJM at the Las Vegas Open

I think Savannah has improved a lot in the past year, as sjm noted. She is more competitive with top players. The mental part of the game might be the toughest of all - it's why Niels Feijin has made it the focus of his pool instruction. Pool players have to be like a baseball hitter or pro...

PATTAYA OPEN 2026, Pattaya Thailand, March 2 to March 6

Flights to Thailand from other parts of Asia are very cheap. If the event offers highly discounted rooms, playing in the tourney would only cost a few hundred bucks aside from the entry fee.

The announcer referred to the Team games as the "Olympics" of pool. Clever designation. This event holds big promise for Predator.

PATTAYA OPEN 2026, Pattaya Thailand, March 2 to March 6

Assuming it is accurate. I think I used AI to try to find the numbers. Bizarre how so many WNT tourneys are slow to reveal prize fund breakdowns, especially the lesser events.

I am as well. Can't find the link I came across a few days ago, but I think only the top eight win anything. Finish outside the top 8 and $30 is all you get. However .. I did see some indication that players were being subsidized to some extent, perhaps food or lodging.

Ernst turns 15 at the end of April. He's had a big teen growth spurt in the last 18 months. Looked like a little kid before that. Because, of course, he was! Easton turned 16 in February.

PATTAYA OPEN 2026, Pattaya Thailand, March 2 to March 6

The Pattaya roster, btw, is pretty good. Yapp, Chua, Hoang, Capito, Januarta, Orcollo, Manas and Regalario are the biggest Asian names. A large contingent of other top Pinoys, too. Only European of note is Mickey Krause. Oddly, a half dozen Americans I've never heard of are listed.

PATTAYA OPEN 2026, Pattaya Thailand, March 2 to March 6

So far this year, there have been only two other WNT ranking events. The China Tapei Open and the Carabao International Open in Indonesia. Ko Pin Yi won the China Tapei Open, accruing $30,000, or 30,000 Reyes points. Not sure it matters, though. No one will catch Yapp this year as the highest...

PATTAYA OPEN 2026, Pattaya Thailand, March 2 to March 6

WNT ranking event. Total prize fund: $50,000 USD Winner: $22,500 Runner up: $12,500 Semifinalists: $7,500. This is a new tournament in Asia designated a WNT ranking event that mostly has implications for the Reyes Cup. What jumped out at me is the format. Rather unusual for a WNT-affiliated...

Pro Billiard Series - Las Vegas Men's Open 10ball live now

The Teams tournament almost has a bit of a Mosconi feel to it. Not in terms of fan involvement/reaction, but the hybrid format. Pretty interesting. Funny to see Team USA A and Team USA B getting matched up today. Predator is definitely thinking outside the box. Good to see, even if some ideas...

Pro Billiard Series - Las Vegas Men's Open 10ball live now

The Predator events in Las Vegas appear well attended. One of the best attended Predator events I've seen. No doubt helps that tickets are free. Ho Chi Minh last year might be the only Predator event I have seen with better attendance. My sense is the Teams events draw a lot of fan interest...

Pro Billiard Series - Las Vegas Men's Open 10ball live now

Orta turned out to be not so bad. He did look a bit shaky in the first set. Ernst has a Fargo of 694. Orta is at 606, but he looked better than that. The two have played before and are familiar with each other. Ernst beat Orta to win the 2024 BEF Junior championship. Ernst is still playing...

Pro Billiard Series - Las Vegas Men's Open 10ball live now

The big difference between Filler and Gorst, to me, is the ease with which Filler plays. It's just as skogstokig describes. Gorst, on the other hand, seems like he has to work harder to get to the same plane, and then stay there. It's more than that, though. Filler has methodically worked on...

Pro Billiard Series - Las Vegas Men's Open 10ball live now

Such the irony. It's harder to beat Filler in multiple sets, as in the Predator format, than in single sets (races to 9, etc). I would like to see Filler play in more major WNT opens. He's got a lot of big wins the past several years, but he's only won one WNT major since 2023.

Pro Billiard Series - Las Vegas Men's Open 10ball live now

If I needed a champion to play one game, or a race to 9, for my life I would choose Filler. Yet the win over Fedor doesn't tell me anything new. Gorst didn't lose a single set in the tournament until the final, when he made a series of uncharacteristic errors. Badly overran his position a...

WNT PREMIER LEAGUE OF POOL 2026, Miami, Fla, Feb. 18-22

No appearance fee. Mosconi and Reyes players get flight and accommodations paid for, I think. I got the sense from players last year that the PLP subsidizes some expenses but it was unclear. In an interview a few days ago, Melling said he was just hoping to make his money back. Said it cost him...
