I was used to Masters. HATE Silver Cup, feels like beach sand compressed into a cube. Unfortunately, that's the majority of what's at my local watering hole. There's a couple of cubes of NTC (National Tournament) and it's not bad, comparable to Masters IMHO...
Actually, that made me think of something. OB shafts use a layered rock maple ferrule with a shim or gasket between it and the tip. I have no idea what this shim is made of, just that if you don't use it, the shaft doesn't work quite right.
Rubber tips have been around for a while, fantastic for wicked english and masse shots. You can buy screw-in rubber tips on Ebay. They're bright orange on a clear plastic base. There's a reason for this. If you're ever caught playing for money, in a tournament, etc. with a rubber tip, things...

It does look good. The stars in the rings are interesting. Not sure I'd have used that combination of main woods, but it's a nice cue.
All that being said, it was for a very good cause and I hope it raised a ton of money.
I wonder if he broke away from the dealers or vice versa, considering how many people here have commented on his not exactly being a "people person". But without a dealer's input it's all conjecture.
