Shoot a Million Balls? Give me a break.

The corner pockets at steep angles are wider on one side than the other. On the tables I play, caressing the rail will cause a rattle, so I shoot to avoid rail contact. The side pockets at a steep angle make you aim for where the ledge of the slate is--you want to roll OB over the ledge--this...

How often do you replace cue tips?

I am getting 2-to-2.5 years per tip (hard) 4-5 years on my break cue (XX hard) and forever on my jump cue (phenolic) I shape playing cue every 6 months or so, break cue once a year maybe, and never touch the jump cue tip.

❗Installing weird yellow square tips on cue shaft ❗

That is what happens when a super hard tip covered in abrasive makes high speed contact with the ball and slides. It is also why pool leagues want to ban super hard tips on break cues and jump cues.

    Mind the buyer's premium....

On the one hand, OP has pointed out that people do not often make good economic judgements. On the other hand, if buyer has the money and still wants that ugly thing, is it not our duty to separate him from his money ?????

    Jump Cues

I use a Lucasi jump cue from a decade ago ($60 back then). Works better than I do. When you have CB in center of table and a close interfering ball, there is no way to perform underhand jump.

AI still needs a little work

As a machinist, one can have dual chuck mean a chuck at each end of the shaft. Making it impossible to drill/bore/face the ends. or............................one can have a small 3-jaw chuck mounted in the 4-jaw chuck holding only one end of the cue-part. or............................one can...

    Pocket Facings for Olhausen

This actually makes an Olhausen perfect for practice as you have to be able to hit a smaller target <pocket>.

Shoot a Million Balls? Give me a break.

Thank you for your kind offer. I used to go to the range and shoot 50×308W and 100×45ACP 3 times a week Then come back home and reload all of them. It has been said:: "The mark of a good pool player is a misspent youth" !!

Shoot a Million Balls? Give me a break.

I introduce myself as the "local pool hustler". {Although I don't play for money 99.9% of the time} I do not have a gambling bone in my entire body. (Took too many courses in Statistics) a) winning $5-$100 does me no monetary good at all (rounding error) b) winning $5-$100 causes me to feel...

Shoot a Million Balls? Give me a break.

At the bar my win rate is between 80% and 90% My typical run is 6-7 balls I take more time on these, make about 80% of 3-rail shots, 70% of jumps, and get lock up safeties routinely. There is a point in your learning where "just shooting balls" is the aim. There is a point later on when...

Shoot a Million Balls? Give me a break.

Shoot faster--I generally take a shot every 5-odd seconds. That alone cuts you time to 2 years. Practice longer--several 1 hour sessions per day with rest in between. Now you are down to 1 year.

    Calling all tip geeks............................

The words in the ad used to describe the tip are no better than the words used in Star Trek to describe 24th century physics !

I just learned of a new pool hall, in Downtown Austin TX.

I am old, too. My Frat House used to sell gallon of beer for $1.00--you bring your own milk jug.

New Cue Syndrome -- Real or Imagined

Me, I disagree with the premise--I typically play OK with new cue, but not as well as I played with my long-term cue (and shaft).

I just learned of a new pool hall, in Downtown Austin TX.

There was a time a few years back when a bunch of Frat-pledges showed up and wanted to play me and Craig for pitchers. It was around 10:30 PM when we started. By 2:00, we had drunk as much beer as we could possibly hold, given each sitting table a pitcher of beer(or more) and not lost a single...
