    90s Schon Shaft

the gold lettering sounds like logo is written horizontally in the collar vs vertically above the collar, which would indicate a 1993 shaft. 1993 butts have a specific pin, a 5/16x14 pin with a nose, so if you wanted originality, you would need a 1993 butt.

    cue identity

It is a Dove cue, though not necessarily a Mizerak cue unless it has the signature on the forearm. With regard to them made in Japan, that is a new one for me. I think Chopdoc might have some catalog scans that may indicate the country of origin. I was under the impression they are...

    National Cue

That looks like a Chicago made National. Even through the plastic I can see Wico style points. It may also be a Gandy. Looks like an HC-150

    National cue age?

if I recall, Gandy was at National from 71-73, Helmstetter, Meucci and Hart ca. 68-69 at National. I believe Huebler was there as well. I’m not trying to say your cue isn’t built well or plays bad. I’ve have played with great playing $20 Kmart cues. What I’m getting at is your cue does not...

    National cue age?

If I recall correctly, the National cues that were made in the US will be very similar to those made by Ricco Cervantes under the name Gandy. If you were to ignore the logo, your cue has all the hallmarks of a Taiwanese cue. The USA made Nationals will be on par with a 60’s Viking, Mali...

    Kersenbrock and Schrager

From what I’ve read, he didn’t last longer than 6 weeks there. Something to do with changing the Bert’s settings on his machinery.

    here's another id thread

More of a gut feeling. It may have been one of the early builders that passed through Bert’s shop back in the day. The pic that cuesblues posted years ago has a different pin, it has a nose. There is a good thread about the Harvey Martin influence from a few years ago. While short...

Model and year of an Adam, please?

The pin would be sharp if it was earlier. 58” didn’t become common until Meucci, if I recall, help create it as a “standard” length. I think that was late 70’s early 80’s. I don’t believe Adam cues started til 70 give or take. I’m pretty sure Helmstetter was still with National around...

Question on Newly Acquired Adam Cue

Your premise is flawed. I think you would be surprised at the high quality of particular Chinese made goods. my question is if you are under the belief that the cue was made under Japanese ownership, did you represent the cue as made in Japan? FYI, that cue is called “The Bludgeon” FG-12...

    Adam cue model and age?

I know that Adam has a line called Adam Classic that has a lot of the same features that this model does. that is a mighty bright pilot for being 40 years old. https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/question-on-newly-acquired-adam-cue.535196/

Still feel like a newbie after 30 years

My grandfathers were Navy in WWII. One was a SEABEE the other was in a sub. The sub got hit and when they surfaced, they became POW’s. Per my dad, March of 43 till the war ended. I never met them. My dad was in the Navy during Vietnam, 67-69. He has his sailor tattoos. My favorite is a...

Why buy a custom cue over a national brand?

I have both. My production cues are all from the 60’s to the late 80’s. My only customs at the moment are some custom sneakys, an old Bert Schrager and my Sowder conversion. Having bought and sold numerous cues over the last 15 years, what I have come to realize is old production cues do not...
