You are correct... wearing the tip down will change the tip's elasticity. Are you using the Kamui Gator Grip? The Kamui tip should not wear down fast. If you are using an aggressive tool then you are hurting the integrity of the leather, and resulting in your current experience.

Yes, go with a Kamui Black Soft Tip. There is less elasticity in the Black soft. You got the Kamui Black Super Soft down to 2 1/2 from the dome... You basically took out a lot of the elasticity.... Hence, Kamui Black Soft is fine. Let me know how it works out.
