Apr. 10-14, 2017 US Open Straight Pool Championship

I'll be up for the first four days. Would love to see some great performances from good guys such as Messrs. Barouty, Jewett, and Chin.

Apr. 10-14, 2017 US Open Straight Pool Championship

Thoroughly enjoyed last year's event. Spectating with food and drink at one's back made it even more enjoyable. Mark Kulungian is an excellent host. If the field remains small, there might be a surprise at the end. By the way, if there were a Golden Age of Straight Pool, the De Oro, Taberski...

Apr. 10-14, 2017 US Open Straight Pool Championship

I went last year. It was a wonderful event with a curiously small field. Orcullo beat Van Boening in the final. I'll be able to watch the first three days. Can't wait. Mark Kulungian is a great host.

    World 14.1 Cumulative Player List

World 14.1 Players Years and Finish Very much still a work in progress. I've gotten wonderful suggestions from folks like Bob Jewett and Steve "the Commish" Kurtz. John Leyman was kind enough to send me his files from 2010-2015. I'm still trying to accumulate a Charles Ursitti style archive...

Female players in the World 14.1

Emily Duddy will be playing this year. I'm sure many of us remember Jasmine Ouschan beating all the boys and finishing 3rd in 2008. Jasmine played in the tournament from 2006-2010. Other female participants have included Jeanette Lee 2006, 2014 Pam Cimarelli 2012 Liz Ford 2009 Gerda...

    Pete Margo’s 14.1 Tournament Career

From the horse's mouth Did it the easy way this time. From Pete's own website: Peter Margo, Straight Pool and 9-Ball Champion Peter Margo has won many events over the years- and has many trophies to show for them. Read about Peter Margo, his billiards career and where he is today...

    Pete Margo’s 14.1 Tournament Career

Additions to Pete Margo's record Thanks, Charlie. Somehow those didn't come up in searches of the Ursitti archive. By the way, that Pete had lower finishes at times in the final 16 is not negative. Anyone looking at the full field (of fifty or so players at times) would be astonished by the...

Nominee for 14.1 HOF, Local Hero

Onofrio Lauri was the old man I followed around in the early Sixties. Funny to think that I’m older now than he was then. Born on June 27, 1896, he competed across six decades. He received the Billiard Room Proprietors Association of America (BRPAA) “Lifetime Achievement Award” in March 1966...

The Frail Gray Man With The Strong Pool Cue

The Deacon I'm with Jewett. Attracted to pool rooms by the raffish air projected unforgettably in The Hustler, I really became fatally entranced with the game watching Irving Crane at the Hotel Commodore. Tournaments and tuxedoes-that's what drew me to the game as a lifer.

14.1 Hall of Fame in NYC in Sept

Hof 14.1 I'll be there, of course. I'd nominate Nick Varner in the well-known category which has honored Ortmann, Martin, Rempe, and Hopkins, and Onofrio Lauri of Seaford for local hero, like Nagy, Colavita, Stallman, and Barouty. My Long Island parochialism aside, Pat Fleming wouldn't be a...

    World 14.1 Cumulative Player List

Thanks for your many suggestions Bob Jewett and Steve Kurtz have suggested a format with one line per player giving year and finish. I've attached that information in pdf to comply with the file size restrictions of the forum. Again the information is incomplete, especially for the East...
