    Good Books to Learn From

I've read a fair number of the books mentioned and I think that Mark Wilson's stands alone. However, if Mark were to produce a revised edition, I would ask him to include more guidance for older players, perhaps related to: position of the feet in his recommended stance; distance of the head...

Congratulations on the way you're approaching all this. I admire your discipline and I believe you'll get some good results.

"Lock and load" the shoulder to control movement?

Can't recall where I heard this and it even may have been something Dr. Dave mentioned. If I understood correctly, it was about cocking the right shoulder up and back into a stable, kind of locked position. The benefit being that it easy to keep it there and keep the shoulder out of your stroke...

Is it a legal bank shot when...

Adjacent rail is not a bank. That makes sense. Is it a rule?

Is it a legal bank shot when...

... the CB and OB are just off the rail, close to straight in, and you slide the OB into the pocket off the rail. I guess that qualifies as a bank shot, true? Thanks.

    How Common Is This?

I want to meet the person it's never happened to.

Matchroom/U.S. Open is leaving Atlantic City

Yeah, since Annigoni and McCumber abandoned Amtrak for a rental car in Playing Off the Rail, it's only gotten worse.

    Matchroom WNT interface

The WNT.TV interface is laughable. Counter-intuitive, inadequate labelling, confusing layout, pathetically reminiscent of early website designs. They should hire a company to do user testing and fix it once and for all. It's not rocket science.

Florida Open 2025, August 5-10, Orlando, Caribe Royale

During Earl's last match, he jacked up and missed, prompting one of the commentators to say something to the effect that that becomes harder as your shoulder ages. Sure enough, Earl subsequently missed two more shots from that position. I noticed that a couple of Shane's rare misses in his...

    Pronunciation of "Aloysius" (Yapp)

Yeah, I'm skeptical of that voiceover, too. Singapore was a British colony and Aloysius is a particularly British name, but I'll bet it's as unusual in Singapore as it is today in UK.

    Pronunciation of "Aloysius" (Yapp)

If that's how he says it, I stand corrected. It's a fairly common name inUK, where they say it as I described. My mistake, Mr. Yapp.

    Pronunciation of "Aloysius" (Yapp)

Things are getting global enough that comentators might as well be saying players' names correctly. Yeah, picky, but why not? There is no such name as "uh-LOY-asus Yapp." It's al-oh-WISH-us.

3 things you would change about pool

It's fine the way it is. After decades of everyone complaining about pool not going anywhere, we're riding the crest of a wave. The current formats, commentators, rule variations, etc., may not be ideal for us hard cores, but cumulatively may serve to bring new fans and players to the sport. Far...

    Pronunciation of "Gorst'

What's interesting is that the Russian speakers in that link have so many variations. I assume that's different dialects from within a very large country, just my guess. I'm sure the one course I took would have made him FED-or, or maybe FAY-dor. Regardless, he sure strokes straight.

    Pronunciation of "Gorst'

This is of zero significance and even less interest, unless you're sick of hearing that Matchroom Brit refer to Fedor as though his name rhymes with borscht (the food). There is a consonant in Russian that sounds exactly like our "sh" sound, but it doesn't occur in the Russian spelling of Gorst...

    ID this cue?

Elite was all I ever came up with, but the Elite logo (all caps) is quite different. Also, this has a steel 3/8 x 10 pin into wood, which struck me as a little unusual.

    ID this cue?

Anyone recognize this logo? It's a nice enough cue, but I assume it's an inexpensive whatever as it was given to me by a pool buddy who passed away. Thanks.

Do you think Pool is Fun?

Looks to me like league players socializing, laughing and buying each other beers are genuinely having fun. The rest of us are continuously accepting a challenge and taking it seriously, because we experience validation when we meet it and some level of disappointment, even a kind of agony, when...
