    dcc 14:1 challenge results

Fantastic, fantastic job to all involved, and especially Mr. Walsh for keeping us all updated. One thing which really surprised me - the best runs of the qualifying rounds seemed to occur on the fourth day of attempts. Intuitively, you'd expect the opposite as the table tightens up. Dennis or...

    List of Living 200+ Runners

List updated. Can't include Dick Letorneau because I can't tell if the story is recent enough that he's probably still around... Doitforthegame, please clarify. Thanks, Steve

    Nice post David.

what is the ideal pace in 14.1?

Hey Bill. I definitely used to play faster, but made a conscious effort in the month leading up to this year's world championship to slow my pace down. I liked the results (not really talking about my finish in the tournament, which easily could have been much worse depending on some variables...

Capelle: Pattern 14: The BB/KB Double Play (TB) by Mike Sigel

A couple of interesting things here. First, Drew, I like your pattern and probably would have played it myself. The real risk in it occurs on the first shot. If you get bad on the 8, the situation begins to deteriorate quickly. The only other thing which concerns me about this pattern is...

Phil Capelle's new book " Break Shot Patterns"

Hi David. Just wanted to clarify - the end patterns I was commenting on weren't situations where a great pattern existed and the player simply missed it. They were examples of leaving 5 rather unconnected balls on the table. While there are some general rules to learn in these situations...

Phil Capelle's new book " Break Shot Patterns"

I've had some time to go through this material, and I still need some more. This is difficult stuff but well worth it. I will say that there are many end-patterns presented here whose inclusion I'm not sure I understand. Some of the positions are so bad that not much can be learned here...

    Sportmanship at US Open

But Jay, it's not just about respecting his opponent, is it? Presumably, even if Earl is yapping away only while he's at the table, there are many other players in the immediate vicinity who may be affected by his running dialogue? I've had to play next to Sigel in many matches, so... I know...

    Great Column by George Fels

I guess, being of the opinion that pool has always lacked advertisers and sponsors, I am greatly surprised that events in other disciplines are able to garner the required dollars for sanctioning. Does anyone know anything about this? Where is this additional money coming from for rotation...

    End of my Cohen match

Thanks ctyhntr. My hunch is that wiggly was asking about diagram 5 in that sequence. I don't know how to convert these to a jpg, so unfortunately I'm useless in this department.

    End of my Cohen match

Thanks Dennis! I had a bit of a breakthrough at this tournament for sure, and it came from several sources. First, about three or four months ago, I was talking to Thorsten at Society Billiards in NY. He told me I should make a plan to win the World 14.1 Championship. He wasn't kidding, and...

    End of my Cohen match

Thanks Andy. As to your point 1, yes, the shot needed extreme inside english. I tried to show that in the diagram, but you're right, I didn't mention it in the text. To yours and Dennis' questions about the combination, the balls were apart by just enough that I believed it to be just a cut...

    Unacceptable 14.1 Worlds

Hi Kaz. Not sure anybody would have that level of detail (who crossed 150 first) for all those matches, but even if they did, I don't think it would tell the whole story. I think both the favorites and underdogs "play to the score" a lot - i.e., it's easier for the underdog to get to 150 first...
