how are ya'll doing in league ?

It's been a solid start to the season for my team, we are currently in 1st in our division with a bit of space from 2nd. The thing that's really propping us up is that we don't have a single player on our team with a below 50% win rate(including a 2 that just moved up to a 3 having won 6 out of...

The final frame in the O'Sullivan vs Selby match was amazing! WOW!!

    Who is active here

Had one of my most solid sessions in recent memory against the house pro at our room(he played on the pro tour in the early 90s) and managed to finish at 4 games apiece when I had to head to work. The practice from earlier this week helped a lot and I managed 4 decent runs including a 57 that I...

    Who is active here

I play about once a week at a club here in Edmonton that has some fantastic tables. Played yesterday and had a full clearance running the line in practice as well as an 85 and 60 break playing a friendly set with another guy.

how are ya'll doing in league ?

Last night was an interesting one for our CPA(APA in Canada) 8 ball team. We whitewashed our opponents for the entire match. Our team ranks were 2,3,3,5 and 7 and everyone in our lineup played well. I'm not sure I've ever seen a team not win a single game over a full match before.

how are ya'll doing in league ?

As predicted in here, we played a team this week and when my team put me up as a 7, their captain(a 6) and one other player(a 2) were left. I heard them talking about it and he refused to go up because he didn't want to risk his rating going down so he put up the 2. Needless to say, it didn't...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

I've had the opposing team players complain about having to play me in 2 out of the 4 matches I've played so far. In one of them, two guys on the opposite team argued for 2 or 3 minutes about not wanting to risk losing their ratings until one of them finally relented and came out to play. It...

I can just imagine how that would play out. It was my week to sit last week and this week was our bye week so it hasn't happened yet.

What Youngsters Want Old Masters Cues?

I just don't understand the fascination with a number of the high-end cues. I don't see how a Szamboti, Balabushka, Franklin-era Southwest, Thomas Wayne, etc. hit better than a large number of lesser known cue makers that offer their products at far, far less than these guys. I could, maybe...

    Fargo rant

Yup, the people you see in the list from Alberta are exactly who I was talking about. In particular: Stephen Holem, Ben Francis, Erik Vargas, Russ Whittle, Rob Phillips, Joe Spence, Brian Butler, Carlos Barbosa, Sean McKay, Garry Hauck, Jerry Young....and that's just the first column. The...

    Fargo rant

I'm fairly sure that league player Fargo rates vary from region to region quite a bit. I'm from Alberta and in both Edmonton and Calgary there are a decent number of league players ranging from the high-600s to the 730 range.

how are ya'll doing in league ?

4 matches in so far and have won all 4 as a 7 in APA 8-ball but I'm really struggling to get into it. I don't really like the rules(take what you make, no jump cues, flukes count) and I find having to sit and watch the 2s and 3s play each other a bit painful after years of playing masters BCA...

    Fargo rant

I had a similar rating on Fargorate(720+) when it first launched because of an event I had played ages ago. I hadn't played in a competitive event in probably 4 years since that one and entered in a local event earlier this year. I didn't play overly well that event and my rate adjusted down to...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

Hi Russ, I am completely fine breaking from multiple positions as well as 2nd ball if the table doesn't give up balls with a strong head ball break. I don't love the 2nd ball break because when it goes poorly it typically ends up with a giant cluster of balls on the side rail. I generally...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

I understand where you're coming from but I feel that the handicap system already attempts to even the match out. By accepting a bad rack, I feel like I'm negating a big advantage for me(my break is quite good) and that in a lot of cases my opponent wouldn't get to the table if I got a good...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

3 matches down so far in my first season of APA and it's definitely an adjustment from BCA/VNEA from a rules and team perspective because of the handicap system. I'm faring out reasonably well having won all 3 matches as a 7(5-0 vs a 4, 5-0 vs a 5 and 5-3 vs another 7) but I've encountered...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

Was talked into joining my uncle's CPA(APA in Canada) 8-ball team after having played many seasons of VNEA/BCA. The first week was a bit of an adjustment to the rules(take what you make, no jump cues, flukes count, etc.) but I started as a 7 handicap because of the known-ability rule(the league...

    Shane from 2000-2007/2008

I remember playing in the VNEA many years ago, when Shane was still really young(maybe 19ish), and every time I went to the Cue Club he was there and taking on all comers. He won the VNEA singles that year, if I recall correctly, and snapped off almost everyone who tried him.

Wiraka pool table vs pro star (Italian made)

Hmm, you're the first person that I heard mention disliking the lighting. From a player's perspective, I really like it inside the room as each table is really well lit and the background clutter is faded into the darkness so you don't see people moving around. To each their own.
