My "New" GC 134 - Part 1 (long)

Bob DeTurk and Pat O'Donnell worked on my table this summer; I posted about it here. Since then, these two rebuilt the old Gold Crowns at Sandcastle in Edison, NJ and got rave reviews. (Ed, the room's owner, also posted about his experience). Now this interesting post from MikeM showing the...

Pat Johnson and John Barton Meet - World Does Not Explode

I could swear I heard a chorus of Kumbaya in the distance as I was reading your post, JB. Seriously, I'm glad to hear that you two met and enjoyed each others' company.

Zen and the Art of Pre-Shot Routine Maintenance

A very sound idea, Patrick... I'm nobody's idea of a great player, but I recall practicing this way (one stroke) when I was first learning the game. It does in fact encourage better concentration and more precise aiming. I really can't say how or why I got away from this, but I haven't done...

Mike Sigel vs Mika Immonen 14.1

No disrespect to Mike Sigel, but I agree with cuetechasaurus' thinking here. Maybe not "by a landslide", but Mika's youth and athleticism would give him a significant edge.

CTE, aka Cener to Edge Aiming? Anyone still trying to learn the "system"

I had the opportunity to speak with Stan Shuffett yesterday at the 14.1 championships in New Jersey. (Landon was playing in the tournament). He stated that he would be reviewing the first proof of the DVD next week and that it will be released very soon. (Incidentally, I'm not advocating for...

    Phillipines made cues on ebay??

There are wide quality variations among the Phillippine cuemakers As others have mentioned here, the JD cues (Joel Davidas) are an excellent value, look good, and play well. The kayaban_pc cues are of MUCH lower quality. Not familiar with Richmond.

    More EBAY Trolling! Crazy

I liked this line in the item description... "... This a serious pool cue at a serious price. Other lesser Joss' are selling for in excess of $20k... " And where, exactly, are these sales taking place?

    Sports Illustrated pool articles

Bob, thanks for posting these links... Some very enjoyable reading in these articles. Fascinating to realize that the elite players of the '60's were saying that there was no money in the pro game even then-- supposedly at the height of pool's post-war boom with the release of the movie The...

Who Won the Women's World 9-ball?

The Metro is actually an OK looking table. That thing that they were playing on might be the f-ugliest table I've ever seen... to say nothing of the playability issues already mentioned.

3rd event with "No Conflict Rules"

Interesting way to play... I've not seen these rules before, but they seem to make a lot of sense. Anyone else have any experience with them?

Had this happen the other night...

There is no "rule" requiring you to tell an opponent that he is shooting the wrong ball... but really, when playing just for fun, why wouldn't you? It can't be very satisfying to win this way, and (as you've seen) calling your opponent on his mistake after the fact can quickly lead to hard...

2010 US Open 9 Ball Championship - An Open Letter from Barry Behrman

Good for Barry, I say... I think that this is an acknowledgment of the criticisms leveled by the players' association recently announced by Johnny Archer, Rodney Morris, and Stevie Moore. It's Barry's pledge to do better from now on in paying the players promptly. Also, it addresses what...

Why do I hit really hard cut shot consistently, but miss the straight shot just as..

Good mechanics aren't that complicated, and it doesn't "take years" to learn them if you have proper instruction. Based on the observation that you are lifting the butt of the cue during the stroke, and given your issues with straight in shots, it appears that your stroke mechanics need work...
