New Install - what should a novice check/ask for?

Oh it's much more than that, I'd rather not say here, but my wife insisted on a nice piece of furniture, and I wanted 9', so let's just say it will make playing difficult that I had to give up an arm and a leg.

New Install - what should a novice check/ask for?

Yes, we had the whole warranty discussion, and was assured as best I can be until we see how they respond. It is beautiful, I take it the key is lack of wrinkles or visible stresses? I do not know enough to ask, much less judge the pocket question. I have read a bit about it, and table...

New Install - what should a novice check/ask for?

Getting a new table installed hopefully next week, a Canada Billiards La Condo. I tried doing homework on the dealer, they use their own installer, hopefully made a good choice, but that choice is done. I've had pool tables off and on over the years but never paid much attention or took it...

9' table... Real world room size needed

I'm getting a 9' hopefully late next week, and trying to balance it's location against both walls and furniture, so this has been an enlightening (if also a bit entertaining) discussion. Can I ask a slight twist. One side of the table is likely to have low furniture -- under where the cue...

    Ceiling Fan and LED Light

Should you still want the light under the fan, one option is to suspend it from the sides not directly above, e.g. four thin cables (one with power of course), going up at (say) 10-30 degrees from vertical (along both angles). Having the cables at an angle like that will keep it from moving at...

    Billiard Supply in Miami?

I was shopping for a table and stopped into Boyington Billiards up in Boyington Beach, which is a bit north of Miami. They were delightful and had quite a large number of tables, as well as various accessories in stock. They also have another store, I think a bit further north as well. Debbie...

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

I'm a photographer, does that mean you are (were?) one of them and are available to pose? ;)

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

Just to follow up (and again say thanks for the advice), we ordered it today. We settled on a setup kit that included Brunswick Centennial Balls, and some slightly upgraded cues (basically $90 sticks -- I figure until I know more no reason to make choices in what I want). The majority of that...

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

Thanks @Gideon. Will spend some extra time tomorrow on colors. I will make the light plenty bright enough, somehow. It is shadows I worry about if I can't get enough separate lights. Maybe LED ribbons all around the outside edges under the bumpers. At least the cloth is probably the...

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

@Bavafongoul, thanks. Balls are definitely on the list. Heading off tomorrow for a road trip to finalize and get it all on order; this thread has been very helpful getting me thinking about the right things.

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

@johnnysd, thanks, that is not really inconsistent with what we were told, I suspect the dealer who told us "no vacuuming" (way back when) just assumed we were not smart enough to figure out the difference in a strong and weak vacuum. The above was quite helpful, thanks.

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

@KimmoH, thanks for the suggestions. I'm sure we will, as when we had one before we often played and it was a draw to have friends over. It is even worth mentioning that the dining table aspect may rarely be used -- when we had the "real" dining table in a real dining room, we ate on it maybe...

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

You may have noticed though I do not live in Canada, but a long way south (to your question "what province do [I] live in?". The problem I have seen with all other tables I have encountered is depth, i.e. distance from the top rail to the supports underneath. You can't just put a top on most...

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

Incidentally if you are curious what the table looks like it is here: http://canadabillard.com/la_condo_stainless/p2021.aspx Not a great photo but it may give some idea. In fact all their photos are small and mediocre, but we have seen the actual table in two different finishes. The...

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

I was wondering about horizontal storage, but vertical just wasn't in the cards since the idea is not to look like a pool room when it's a dining table. It was either a storage bench or a storage console, both horizontal. At least they are supported the entire length, not suspended at each...

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

Thanks. This is a "dining conversion" table, with a top cut to fit over the table to make it look and act like a dining table (albeit a bit thick of one). That's the only way I could get it approved to go into the Great Room - a piano there went into the dining room. I'm not in Canada, am in...

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

Vacuum: The last table we bought (circa 91) the dealer told us never, ever vacuum, always brush, that the joints are (filled?) with something that can be broken up by vacuuming. Was that not true? It's going on tile on a slab, so (literally) rock solid.

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

Thanks. Treadmills - those are worse, at least for me my wife bought a couple different ones but for me -- despite being told I wouldn't use them. And strangely enough I didn't use them. I've had a pool table most of my life and often go in and just hit balls for fun, nothing like a serious...

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

One is charging $250 additional and I am sure would leave it off, one is throwing it into the table price (they say it is $399 list), so getting credit for that would be harder, maybe about the same $250. still waiting for a final quote from one to decide which retailer. Both seem happy to be...

So while I'm buying a table, what am I forgetting...

If she forced me into the garage, her nice red sports car would be forced out into the Florida sun. She has her priorities also. Though there was a lot of discussion about an all-weather table, we just could not find space on the Lanai. No one should have to go outside in SW Florida...
