    14.1 Hail Mary Shots

I love this analysis, Bob. Thanks for this. I didn't realize you were a physics wizard. No surprise you and Dr. Dave A. have worked on projects together.

    14.1 Hail Mary Shots

I didn't realize that pro tables are getting tighter, though I've heard that Diamond tables are tough. I agree that today's pros would probably have a tough time with 60's conditions, but given that the 14.1 pros of old shot mostly high percentage shots, I doubt that tighter pockets would have...

    14.1 Hail Mary Shots

Do you think that today's equipment has any bearing on the frequency of safety play vs shooting away? In the Mosconi era and before the cloth was napped and slower and the balls didn't break up as easily as today.

    14.1 Hail Mary Shots

I'll be viewing that video again. I always thought Crane had no aversion to playing safe after short runs if he didn't have a high percentage shot. Maybe I'm wrong. This video is a good one. Thanks

    14.1 Hail Mary Shots

Nice discussion covering lots of the pros & cons of safety play vs taking a shot. Bob's comment "When you have been playing a lot of 99%+ shots, a shot you might miss one in three looks pretty scary" makes me realize how important it is for you to know your own shot percentages under match...

    14.1 Hail Mary Shots

You make a good point about habit-forming risky shots. Playing safeties in practice certainly pays dividends for future tournaments. Thanks.

    Rules question

I never heard about this rule. It's a good day when you learn something. Thanks.

    14.1 Hail Mary Shots

It seems to me that back when 14.1 was king, up through the 1960s or so, the best players (Mosconi, Greenleaf, Caras, Lassiter, Crane, etc.) tended to play safe when the shooter got out of line and without a reasonable shot. Hard to say as there aren't many videos of those times. Today it...

Table Difficulty Factor (TDF) for measuring table "toughness"

Hey, Dr. Bob Do you have a way to measure table speed, like a golf stimpmeter? How about cushion action? I have 1961 Brunswick Monarch cushions that are still more lively than most other cushions and they bank short. My table is a Brunswick-Balke-Collender Narragansett (circa 1904). Here...

    Simonis 860 versus HR

How well does 860 HR hold up vs 860? If HR is generally better than 860, why is the cost the same? Thanks

2021 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

I did get out of line plenty and I'm not that great a shot-maker so I did well to keep it going. The odds catch up with you though. I've been accused of having bad patterns before so maybe I should see how you play them.

I'm glad you enjoy them. It takes a lot of time and effort to edit them, but it forces me to critique my runs and hopefully learn from my mistakes. Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for this post through the years. It's very interesting. Here's another entry for 2021. 70 ball run with commentary

2021 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

I used Adobe Illustrator to create PNG files of different CB strike points then shrunk to proper size within Resolve and moved to desired location. I can send you these PNGs if you want. I think my better approach would have been to create just the CB and cuetip dot as 2 files and place them...

I like Resolve as it has a robust built-in feature to add and modify new and existing audio tracks. I considered using OBS when I need to demo pc apps. Do you recommend OBS for that?

Hi VarmintKong. Thanks for your kind comments. I'll definitely post again with similar video techniques and commentary once I beat the 58 ball run.

Sorry for the slow response, The_JV. I used DaVinci Resolve 17 video editing software. It's free and very robust but you need at least 16 GB ram. I also had an external mic FIFINE K678.
