Can we be honest about cues?

Even the top builders today make "player" cues that are usually pretty plain by their standards, but still have the high level of work quality and material selection as their more ornate cues. Most "production" cue material - for example, shaft dowels - are graded only by appearance, without...

    What were some popular drills

The "drill" or method Greenleaf learned from his father... start with just the cue ball, then add a ball at a time every few months....

What to do with my Brazilian rosewood???

I've seen some BRW that had an orange hue to it. Cocobolo is usually very tightly grained (almost no visible pores) and oily, where BRW can be more porous and not as oily... especially when you're dealing with older stock where the oils have crystallized.

    Rosewood Question

I've played quite a few guitars with Brazilian rosewood backs and sides, and some, while spectacular to look at, weren't always my favorite-sounding. With the right builder, the guitar can have the bass of a grand piano. With not-the-right-builder, the sound can be a muddy mess. Also cue...

    Rosewood Question

I know that feeling. I've built about a dozen acoustic guitar, countless electric guitars and electric guitar parts. I'm still on my waiting list for one of my own. Every time I make one for me, someone dangles money in front of me like a carrot to a horse... I've also built furniture and...

    Rosewood Question

Dave, was wondering if you've ever noticed any correlation between how firm or soft someone plays, and the types of woods they prefer for their cues. Also with all the crazy figured exotics, where coring is beneficial for both stability and weight control, do you find the core contributes more...

    ISO/wtb clear acrylic pads

Fastest way to cut them without a laser would be a 5/8" plug cutter for 13mm, give you less than 1/16" overhang. Or a 1/2" plug cutter for 12mm or less.

    Rosewood Question

Brazilian rosewood is probably the most prized guitar wood for its combination of tonal and visual properties. Finding a truly straight quartered piece nowadays is next to impossible. Most of the crazy figured stuff now is actually stump wood, and even that is controlled as well. There are...

    3/8 x 10 Live Threading

It's a single form thread mill or single profile thread mill, you can get them at MSC or other companies. Had to cut a bunch of AL plate for a client, with tapped holes. The prospect of hand-tapping was not pleasing. Easy though with a single form threadmill and some helical interpolation...

    ISO/wtb clear acrylic pads

Next thing you know, Captain Mingaud's family will sue everyone for putting leather tips on cues. I've even put a piece of Lexan under my tip long ago, because I played with a cheap Sneaky with a cheap soft plastic ferrule, and I have a pretty hard stroke at times. Same thing with guys that...

    100k balabuska??

Well the high end stuff is pretty strong. And there's somewhat of a cult collecting phenomenon with loose change finds - errors and varieties mainly. I still have a soft spot for it, but don't collect as much. I will say, as a kid in the early-mid 80s, I collected quite a bit of uncirculated...

    cue ball roundness

This thread reminds me of a way to "cheat" dice. Get a cookie tray and spray a little PAM on it, arrange two dice with the number you want to roll facing up, and stick it in an oven at about 200 degrees for a few minutes... Don't use them for any serious money...

Why does it seem that I play better w a House Cue than my 2 own personal cue?

Maybe the OP simply preferred the weight and balance of the particular house cue.
