    Timing in pool

Robin, I think this concept of timing is a different aspect than what you're describing. It's maximizing spin by smoothly ramping up acceleration and hitting the cue ball at the peak of this ramp up. I mentioned in an earlier post how I was able to get so much more side spin effect with a jab...

    Timing in pool

short video on timing I found this 5 minute video on timing, which uses a draw shot to demonstrate proper timing. I think it pulls together a lot of the discussion in this thread. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbYHoGdQNiE In summary, it's hitting the cue-ball at the peak of acceleration...

    Lite system or predator light

That looks amazing and very clean install. I assume the lead wires from the light run through ceiling and get spliced into the circuit from your light switch. Do you just have a little junction box to hide the splice above ceiling. Also, how's the light coverage?

    Lite system or predator light

In case you want to talk with Predator light engineer, I put his contact info in this post. He'll talk your ear off, but I learned a lot about what options to get for myself. https://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=6756895&postcount=29 I'm thinking about buying the light in early '21.

    Timing in pool

Yep, I think the term "push" is where the technique lies. I believe I follow all the proper stroke techniques, but there's some subtle ways of how to push differently. Perhaps, one should push the same, so maybe I need to unlearn stuff. In the Tyler video, he talks about how the better...

That's a great video and solid explanation! It makes a good complement to the Mark Wilson SPF stuff.

    Timing in pool

No, the speed should be close to same. Here’s the shot (see attached). I used less top English than suggested, maybe half a tip. Without a jab stroke, I had to use extreme side English, and even then I couldn't reliably get the cue ball in the inner box. But with jab I can get it to work...

    Timing in pool

No, my drill yesterday had me doing a half tip of high with about 2 tips of side English. If the only thing I change is smooth vs jab stroke, I get dramatic differences.

    Timing in pool

To jab or not to jab Thanks imac007. That’s a fun video to watch from Mr. Stark no matter whether you agree with him or not. The music that went with the slow motion video was oddly cool. And I always get a good chuckle from the Brits word for draw, both soft and power. If only they had...

    Timing in pool

Thanks for pointing out that constant acceleration is not desirable. I was trying to describe a way of not being too herkyjerky with the stroke, but a "gradual build-up of force" is spot on. Focusing on the "timing" as it relates to the forward stroke, I think how you deliver the cue to get a...

    Timing in pool

That’s good food for thought. There are a few things that require timing. The wrist release to get the right hit is a timing thing. I normally don’t think about the feel in the grip hand, but I will check it out. Thanks for the excellent description to go with the pics! Point well taken. I...

    Timing in pool

The Mark Wilson video that bb9ball referenced is excellent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XW2hg3FTu4 I just watched it and he goes through the entire shot process. He mentions that a pro typically spends 1.4 to 1.8 secs from when they begin backswing to starting forward stroke. So that...

    Timing in pool

You are the local pro, so an Okey Doke would be nice. ;) No, I get it. See ball. Hit ball. Drink beer. Keep it simple. I can't help being a little detail oriented, since I'm a software developer. Details work for me, but I know it's not everyone's bag.

    Timing in pool

Based on the replies, it's clear to me that the term "timing" is ambiguous and leaves plenty of room for interpretation. When Mark Wilson says it, he is probably referring to some broader meaning of how the player executes at the table and what his rhythm/speed are, etc.. I think this is how...

What pool game improvements have you made during Covid?

Nice! With negative interest rates, the money in the bank is just deteriorating anyways. A man cave is a solid investment!

    Timing in pool

When watching pro matches on youtube, I hear the commentators, especially Mark Wilson, talk a lot about timing. I want to confirm my understanding of it. I assume timing has to do with the total time taken to pull the cue back (backswing), pausing at the set position, and stroking through...

What pool game improvements have you made during Covid?

Just checking out all the new posts under your thread. There's a lot of nuggets of gold to read over, which I'll be doing possibly tonight. Thanks Imac007 for the heads up.

What pool game improvements have you made during Covid?

Congrats on the new home table. Your home setup is pretty fine indeed! I checked out the Projector Pro Billiards system. It has a lot of similarities to ICA, but it's much cheaper to buy the base software on raspberry Pi. I also notice they include content from Dr. Dave and Bob Jewett. ICA...

What pool game improvements have you made during Covid?

Thanks for the interesting replies about how the forced downtime is affecting your pool game. The impacts run the gamut from not playing at all, keeping some home game competitions going, working on bringing up their game in key areas, and being very dedicated to home practice. And apparently...

What pool game improvements have you made during Covid?

Well done on being your own table mechanic and cue repair guy. I wish I had the skills and equipment, but for now I pay people. It sounds like your game is shaping up nicely, too!
