    Confidence and the Unconscious

The article was a bit confusing to me as far as what their research showed. I think they were saying if one is confident in relying on their subconscious to do the task, then they can get better results doing the task without thinking. So, maybe you need to have already learned the skill, at...

    Popping ball stroke

Yes, many ways to git’ er done. The wrist pop is an interesting variable to consider, too.

    Popping ball stroke

I agree with you guys. I think the wrist pop is what he means and you can achieve a good draw without a big stroke.

    Popping ball stroke

I was meaning shortening the back swing to avoid raising the cue butt end too high. Since the side rail is close, the back end of the cue needs to go higher the longer his back swing. So, maybe he keeps his back swing shorter to keep the cue less elevated. Hard to explain.

    Popping ball stroke

I watched the match between Shane Van Boening and Corey Deuel with Earl commentating. In the very first game, Shane does a draw shot on the 3 ball. His cue ball is about 2 feet from the object ball. Earl makes a point about popping the ball as a way of delivering the cue. Can somebody...

the pool scene in the Covid world

I'm on an 8-ball league team here in Minnesota. We are not playing this Fall. I didn't ask the captain of our team how the decision played out, but I assume it was not an option. Frankly, I haven't kept up with what policies are inside bars, since they are changing all the time. I wasn't...

How can we Noticeably increase our Sense of Feel and Touch in our Pool Game?

Speaking of feel, you guys ever try shooting pool while crouching barefoot on top of the table. I know there's that rule about keeping one foot on the floor, but they give you extra credit for having 2 feet literally "on" the table. It's a pain if they play all-ball fouls, because it's like...

Time of day and performance vs chronotype

I am the rare bird that plays best at the crack of dawn. I am currently waking up at 4:15 am, then I’m on the home table by 5 am during the pandemic.I normally have to stretch the hammies a little, so I can get into my stance on the first couple of shots. But, my game is pretty sharp after I...

    Diamond Pockets

diamond nylon pockets I replaced the original leather web pockets on my red label diamond professional with the nylon ones probably 10 years ago. The only bad thing is that the black paint they spray on the inside of the pockets comes off on the balls. If I warp shots into the pockets, the...

    Willie Mosconi's aiming system

It appears I'm doing something slightly different. Looking at your blue aiming line, it doesn't look like the line goes through the extreme edge of the CB, where the max radius is. It may not work for everyone, but my method is minimizing the moving parts. I am boiling everything down to the...

    Willie Mosconi's aiming system

Yes, that's a good distinction. I don't try to see the contact point. I keep two things in my mind-- 1) the path to send the OB towards the target and 2) the outside edge of CB. And I rely on the memory from practicing to use that CB reference edge to make the OB go down that path. It takes...

    Contact Point Offset Aiming

Thanks Imac007 for the wisdom and thoughts. I am appreciating the stages of learning you described. I love it when conscious thoughts get absorbed by the sub-concious as your experience grows.

    Willie Mosconi's aiming system

I believe what VorpalCue described is exactly what I'm doing. I tried to explain it in my post in another thread: Link But, it probably wasn't too clear. You're using the point on the outside edge of the cue ball at its maximum girth as a reference or you can also imagine a line or plane...

    Contact Point Offset Aiming

Thanks much for elaborating on the aiming perspective. I get your drift about looking at the horizon instead of focusing on the road. I would also agree that the best perspective for aiming is done while standing and letting your mind do it’s thing. I find it interesting how frame of mind...

    My Life in Pool

For me, pool has always been playing in the leagues and local tournaments. Some funny stuff happens in league play. The very first league I played was APA playing 9 ball on 9 foot tables. I got placed on a team randomly and we were a motley crew. One guy was an older distinguished gentleman...

    Contact Point Offset Aiming

straight-in shots Your point about straight in shots caught my eye because I struggle with these shots. They should be the easy ones, but I like to rattle them in the pockets occasionally! Are you saying it helps to think about the front of the CB instead of aiming at a particular spot on...

Nearest to farthest -- how bad is it?

Looking at the diagram again, I didn’t notice that they are defining a contact point on the CB based on the target pocket. That makes no sense to me and you couldn’t even apply it practically at the table. My aiming method is simply thinking about a line emanating from the extreme outside edge...

Nearest to farthest -- how bad is it?

Mosconi system I think Mosconi's system is the shinola, because I can say that it can be applied in a practical way at the table, and you don't need to whip out a protractor during the game to make it work. During the pandemic, I've been spending a lot of time at my home table working on...
