Is there a tip manufactured like this?

I wanted to buy some tips for some experimentation. Are there any manufactured tips that are noticeably taller/thicker than their radius? I know it is silly but I wanted to try making very small radius tips and everything I’ve seen available wouldn’t really be thick enough.

Played shockingly bad with a house cue with an extremely rounded tip. Was the tip actually less forgiving of stroke/tip placement errors?

If your stroke is otherwise pretty straight and you simply have a perception issue making you hit off center you could do what I did (and sometimes still do just to check). When down on the shot and addressing the ball, lower your bridge until you can see the bottom of the cueball. It is easy to...

    How Many Hours a Week?

I’m 53 and I normally spend at least 2 hours daily on the table. Often that time is split up into two or more separate sessions. It’s enough time to be able to work on problems/experiments or just playing racks but not so much as to make it boring or become lazy. It’s enough time for me to see...

Pool is becoming a rich man's sport

Expensive cues are overrated. A good player could perform well with a $50 house cue after a few shots.

    Split the Difference vs CTE

Me personally? I get down on the intended shot line behind the center of the cuball with my bridge in place. I then move my bridge hand to apply the amount of english that I want. I certainly am pivoting about my back hand using front hand english. It isn’t a gimmick for me, it is literally how...

    Split the Difference vs CTE

Thanks. Yeah, I never could get any good results with an actual parallel shift, because then the cue ball doesn’t travel along shot line. And I was horrible trying to pick an aiming spot not on the shot line that would compensate for the squirt/deflection from the parallel shift. 😂

    Split the Difference vs CTE

In context to the video, for example, when angle is less than 15 degrees. He aims center of cue ball at center of object ball. He then pivots the cue to point at a quarter of the object ball. The pivot he is using in this case is done my moving his back hand, or ‘back hand english’. Technically...

$20 an hour? They must be buying new tables instead of replacing the felt. 😂

    Split the Difference vs CTE

What’s strange is that that system is basically throwing balls in with the spin (SIT) from the (BHE) pivot. Looks like if you need inside english for shape that you’d be eliminating the throw needed to make the shot.

    Elbow drop or pendulum stroke

I think the basic problem with elbow drop before impact is that the tip will contact the cue in a different place than it was at setup. Generally the tip will make impact higher than it was at setup. I think this is why some pros with early elbow drop set up with their tips lower than they want...

Smaller radius, larger radius, or don’t worry about it?

(Ramblings of a lunatic 😂) Those are based using .5R as the miscue limit which requires an angle range of 60 degrees. The theoretical limit is .6R which requires a 73.74 degrees. Let r be radius of tip, D be diameter of shaft, and a be angle range. r=D/(2 sin a/2). (r here is the radius...

Smaller radius, larger radius, or don’t worry about it?

Sounds like I have nothing to lose moving to a dime rather than nickel radius then. I mean who couldn’t benefit from more forgiveness? 😃 Oddly, I have a 13mm tip where a nickel should be okay to not be hitting edge of tip near miscue limit. You might find this interesting (or not). I...

Smaller radius, larger radius, or don’t worry about it?

Fair enough. 👍 I just know that there are some science guys here that might know if contacting the shoulder is less efficient in producing maximum spin versus a larger contact patch from a more inward contact point.

Smaller radius, larger radius, or don’t worry about it?

Whenever I shoot for maximum spin (aiming inside edge of tip to 1/4 cueball) for draw, follow, or english I hit the very edge of tip or ‘shoulder.’ However, I rarely miscue with this offset. Probably because theoretical max spin (offset) occurs at .6 radius and not .5 radius of cueball. I...

You sure can learn a lot watching others play

Sounds silly, but the most benefit I personally get is being able to watch how consistent their shot routine is and how soft they stroke the balls. I will never have their level of talent or shot making abilities, but I can certainly commit to a consistent routine and stroke shots only as hard...

Deflection as relating to tip size

I did your test and always got 2.5 diamonds deviation with both my old cue regular shaft medium tip and my hard tip low deflection shaft. I tried the other test shown and it randomly varied from third and second diamond from corner pocket. It seemed like it wasn’t the different cues that made...

Another 100 SHOTS OF POOL … There’s a Lot More to this Great Game!

The shot that stood out to me wasn’t really about a shot, but the bridge used. Stabilizing the bridge with the belt (or pant waist) was something that would have never occurred to me. 🙂 Great video overall. (As usual)

Question about chalk and hard tip

Does a hard playing tip (Cue Elf #6 ‘hard’) compare with phenolic/break/jump tips? I am embarrasingly lacking tip knowledge.

Question about chalk and hard tip

It could be a chalk issue. I’ve been using cheap triangle chalk. For me anyway, the triangle seems to work much like the masters I was using before when using a softer tip. I do still have some masters laying around. I can try that on my new tip to see if it is different.
