Question about chalk and hard tip

My tip is a hard Cue Elf. I have not had a problem hitting near cue limit. I basically just line up the edge of tip with a quarter of the cue ball. I do however apply a maybe thicker layer of chalk. Maybe a thinner layer would be more even overall.

Question about chalk and hard tip

Couldn’t find a specific answer here with search function. So I recently switched to using a hard tip. I am really liking how it plays (for me). However, I can’t seem to get an even layer of chalk applied to the whole tip. There are small points and arcs where the chalk is ‘thinner’...

    Elbow drop or pendulum stroke

I never thought about it from that perspective. If there is no shoulder rotation, there certainly can’t be any elbow drop.

    Check this one out

Couldn’t that graphic also be looked at as the ‘double the distance’ method?’ I love the concept, but I am horrid at using visualization. 🙂

Calling ball and pocket. My final word.

Hmm. Maybe using a paper disk to mark (call) where you will leave the cue ball after making the shot. If cue ball goes anywhere else opponent gets ball in hand. One can always make the game harder. This is strange anyway. A decent player should almost always beat another player that is so bad...

Room size for two 8 foot tables.

Five foot from cushion nose really wouldn’t leave you with room for a backstroke when playing a ball frozen to rail. Better to have a minimum of five foot from edge of table. Just my opinion.

Deflection as relating to tip size

Thanks 🙂 I read the great Dr. Dave’s stuff on compensation when using english. I knew that I’d remember it a little wrong (slow learner). I should do his recommended calibration of bhe and fhe for myself, but I still struggle to make shots in general even when not using sidespin. 😂

Deflection as relating to tip size

I am a slow learner, but isn’t back hand english mainly for longer and harder shots while front hand english is for shorter and softer strokes?

    WWYD Dec28

Watched it frame by frame. You cut it as much as possible. It would have missed right if it weren’t for a bit of throw. Basically the tangent line was directly straight up into long rail. It was hard enough that there was no chance of draw taking effect before hitting cushion. Hard enough that...

Is a ‘firm’ grip and ‘short’ backswing okay?

Thank you all for the tips and ideas. I appreciate it. Happy holidays!

Is a ‘firm’ grip and ‘short’ backswing okay?

Thanks. Maybe my use of ‘firm’ might be misleading. For a while I was holding the cue so loosely, basically just resting on the cadle of curled fingers, that my hand was somewhat open with a clear gap between top of cue and web of thumb. What I am calling ‘firm’ is just enough extra hand grip to...

Is a ‘firm’ grip and ‘short’ backswing okay?

First, why I am experimenting with these changes. A very loose grip, with a gap between web and top of cue, often leads to erratic contact point and cue jumping off of my bridge hand. Also the loose grip and firm stroke makes that jumping effect even worse. I try to use same acceleration on...
